View Full Version : Can't take much more

Alright, even though it's in my sig, lets run through the list here, in addition to the IC, I also have endo, PFD, VV and pudendal nerve issues.

My new dr wanted me to do the Lupron injections to try to help with the endo. I was nervous about it because I have heard some horror stories but my dr said he had a really high success rate with it so I said I would try it. It made me much more comfortable that he only did the once a month injections so if you have horrible side effects you're not stuck with them for three months like the three month injection.

I had my first injection a month ago. I noticed some horrible hot flashes at first and for the first week or week and a half I had some horrible neausa and stuff. It did all stop for the most part so I didn't worry about it too much.

I went to get my second Lupron injection on Thursday. Thursday night I noticed I didn't feel so hot. Friday we went grocery shopping and while putting the groceries I got so neauses that I had to go lay down. Shane said I felt really clamy and looked pale. I ended up passing out for about two hours and felt weak when I got up but better.

Well yesterday I noticed that my tongue hurt. Felt like I had burned my mouth on something but I had not had anything hot to eat all day. Looked in the mirror and my tongue was COVERED in white yucky stuff. Okay, how in the heck did I get thrush when I haven't been on antibiotics in probably over a year. Well thanks to Barb (BabsRN) she looked it up in one of her medical books and it says that 20% of people who get the Lupron injection will get thrush.

This would be enough believe me, I don't need anymore crap piled on top. But of course this morning I woke up in a horrible bladder flare. My bladder only flares at this level of pain when I'm having my period, but no period. They said at the dr's office that most people get one more period before the Lupron stops their cycle but I am one of the lucky ones that the first injection stops it for them. Yea, so lucky that I don't have a period but it literally feels like an iron fist is squeezing my bladder as hard as it can while I pee. Even when I'm not peeing it hurts like hell. This will obviously be a day when I take my pain meds every 4 hours all day long. I can't take much more.

Shane (hubby) told me to call the dr, and I said, why, so he can tell me to take my pain meds and do an instill and take it easy. I already know all of that. There is nothing else he can do for me. If he were going to prescribe me something stronger than the percocet that I'm already on then I would have to drive all the way to his office to pick it up since he wouldn't be able to call something stronger in and I'm supposed to go there on Thursday anyway.

I just have to pray that when I call them tomorrow and tell them about the thrush they will be willing to call something in before they see me on Thursday. I really can't afford a copay to my regular dr this week as well to just get a script for the thrush. They are pretty nice and they MIGHT call it in for me if Dr. E won't and I explain I can't afford the copay but you never know when they'll be weird and make you come in.

Not to mention the fact that Shane had another really bad stomach, gallbladder, whatever in the hell it is attack last night. He told me that after I went back to bed that his pain got to a 10. I told him he should have woken me up so we could have taken him to the ER. We have to pay a lot out of pocket for our insurance though and he said we couldn't afford to go to the ER just for them to give him pain meds and to not do anything else. So I guess I also have to call his GI dr's tomorrow and tell them they have to give him something stronger to handle the pain from these attacks until they get all this crap figured out because he is too worried about money to go to the ER but the damn 5/500 vicoden are not doing a darn thing for his level 10 pain.

I just want to scream at the top of my lungs, or cry, or possibly do both at the same time. I wasn't going to post this because so many other people are having problems but I need all the support I can get at this time so that I don't totally go off the deep end.

I do think it would be a good idea to call your doctor about your mouth. You need to be treated before it gets worse.

Hopefully they will find out what's going on with your husband soon. :grouphug:

Thanks Mimi and Donna.

Donna, I have every intention of calling my dr first thing tomorrow about the thrush. I guess I'm just worried they won't want to call it in without it being looked at but I don't want to wait until Thursday for them to see it and really can't afford another copay to go to my GP. We are spending a fortune and a half on medical expenses.

I hope everybody is having a better day than we are here.

 :grouphug: I do hope you feel better. You should call, or go to an out patient clinic and have your tongue checked out.

Thanks Cindy. I'll call the Dr first thing tomorrow but we don't have any urgent care or outpatient care clinics. You either go see your dr or if it's after hours you go to the ER. I don't want to call the oncall service for thrush when I'm pretty sure they'll call me in the meds tomorrow. And I surely can't afford to go to the ER when Shane was just there on Monday and has more and more tests and possible surgeries scheduled. The fun just never ends around my house.

Yes I would go to outpatient if I were you, thrush can pass through your stool, etc and cause yeast (thrush) in the vaginal, anal area. Then your really gonna feel like doo doo.

Since everyone is saying I should get the thrush taken care of right away and we don't have outpatient or urgent care places do you guys think I should just call the dr's office. Will the oncall dr call me in meds for thrush on a Sunday? Is it that big of a deal or can it wait till first thing tomorrow morning?

IF you have access to an on call Dr then try to use it. Thrush is nasty if left untreated for very long.

Well Dr. E is the only dr in his practice but I just talked to the answering service and she's going to have him call me. Hopefully he won't think I'm crazy and he'll just call in the script for me.

GriffsMommy
01-20-2008, 05:11 AM
Well Dr. E who is the one who gave me the Lupron called me back. He basically told me that Lupron can not cause thrush even though Barb read it to me straight out of a book she had about different medications. He said he has no idea how to treat it and to call the pharmacy to have them tell me what to take.
I just got a call back from the pharmacy and they said there is nothing over the counter to take for thrush so now I guess I'll call my GP's answering service and see if they'll be more willing to call something in for me. Ugh, the fun never ends.

GriffsMommy

Called the GP's office and they are calling in stuff for me to the pharmacy now. He said he wants to see me Monday or Tuesday to make sure it really is thrush and not some sort of allergic reaction. I don't really have the money to go and see them so I'll see if the rx works and if not then of course I will make an appointment and get it checked on.
Now if only my bladder would stop acting up and Shane's stomach/gallbladder then we might be a little happier around this house.

Thrush is horrible. :( At least your GP is calling you in something. They really should just take that gallbladder out! I had stones and sludge that backed up into my liver bile ducts and that was not fun. I lived like that for at least 6 months before they took my gallbladder out! I went in for a blood test one Friday afternoon to see if it was infected and then that night they called and said to get to the ER for an ultrasound. When I got there they discovered all the stones and admitted me and took my gallbladder out that weekend. Gallbladder issues are absoultely horrible!

Christine, what did they call in for you? Thrush is horrible. I am doing some lupron research now. I hope you start to feel better. I am really worried about you. Let you know what I find out on the research, also calling my pharmacist who I know really well and seeing what he knows about Lupron and Thrush. Hang in there, I know its hard! :grouphug:

Thanks everybody. The new very young, very green dr is the one who said he would call the script in for me at like 11. I went upstairs to lay down around 1 thinking I would go pick it up when I woke up. About 3:50 he called back and asked Shane what pharmacy I wanted him to call again and what their number was because he was just getting to it. I guess it's better than having to wait till tomorrow but lord man, why wouldn't you write that down?!?
He said it was swish and swallow or something or other. I guess it's some kind of liquid. He asked if I needed anything for the pain as well. I have some spray lidocaine upstairs that is meant for oral use I think so I told him no because as long as I keep to bland food it doesn't hurt too much. I just told him I just want the meds to make it better.
I just hope Shane doesn't have another attack tonight. He's getting to the point where he is afraid to eat anything because he doesn't want it to come back. Ugh, thank you for the never ending support as always :grouphug:

Magic Mouthwash. If I remember correctly it doesn't taste so great but it really helps the irritation. I've used it and so has my oldest. Hopefully that will knock out the thrush quickly for you....but keep in touch with your doctor even if it works so they know what works for you and keep it on your file so if this happens on the weekend again and you need a refill they can order it for you. I looked it up too and found the same thing that Barb read to you. Sounds like you might be one of the 20%!

Glad you are going to get to get something to help. I bet it is nyastatin. I know we had to use that with James Patrick when he was little for thrush. Also my dad is a pharmacist and one time I had it and he told me to mix Maalox (I did generic) with benedryl to help the pain and coat the throat. Just in case you get in a bind...just a little FYI. It helped me.

Oh my goodness Christine, you have really been through so much lately. I am so sorry that you are dealing with the thrush on you tongue and that Shane is going through so much pain. I will continue to pray for both of you and I pray that you both can get some relief from the pain :pray::pray:
I wish I lived closer so I could help you all out. I am sorry you all are hurting. I pray that things turn around soon for both of you.

christine, a big hug is coming from jersey. TAKE CARE OF THE MOUTH THING ASAP...i had oral thrush last may and EWWWWWWWWWW. i think they give oral nystatin to swirl in the mouth. cleared it up nicely but you DO have to get it taken care of soon!

as for shane...either call the gi and DON'T TAKE NO FOR AN ANSWER, or go to the er and do not leave until they do something for him, be it an emergency endoscopy or barium swallow...i could go on about stuff but i won't lol. it just needs to be done. please don't forsake your family's health just cause of the money issue (and believe me i know all about it oyyyyyyyy!). DEMAND the care you DESERVE.

i wish we were closer so we could help each other more...i'm around if you need me, i'll be here all night and most of tomorrow.

love and hugs to you.

I don't think I can say thank you enough. Everyone is so sweet and caring. How I love this place. Nyastatin is what he called in for me. I just went and picked it up a little while ago and took my first dose as soon as I got home. It only really hurts after I eat so I'm just drinking some cold water and I think I still have some lidocaine spray upstairs that is for oral use. If I need to use that I can so I should be alright.
Yea, Sandy, see it does say patients who get the Lupron injection can get thrush. I think I said it the wrong way to Dr. E, Shane thinks that the Lupron injection let the thrush grow because it is messing with my hormone levels not that it actually caused it. I was kinda annoyed that he said it wasn't possible though. I got the injection on Thursday and on Saturday I have thrush and I have not started any other new meds so it seems to make sense that it's what caused it. I don't really care anymore, I'm just happy I got the meds. I know what you mean about keeping in touch with the Dr's office but I know it's thrush and I really can't afford the $25 copay when I'll have to pay another one to go to my weekly appointment with Dr. E just for them to confirm that I do in fact have thrush. If it doesn't get better then I will go for sure.
As for Shane, he is so darn stubborn. He has an endoscopy already scheduled and they had to double book the GI dr to get it done w/in 2 weeks. He got mad at me that I didn't ask our GP about something else for his pain. I explained to him that they can't call in anything stronger than vicoden and that's what he has already and it isn't working. I'm calling the GI's office first thing tomorrow morning and telling them that he is still having attacks, the vicoden isn't even touching the pain but he is so stubborn that he doesn't want to go to the ER to just get pain meds because they won't do any other tests. I'm hoping I can yell and be the pissy wife enough that they will give him a script for a stronger pain med to get him through these attacks until he can get these tests done. I just hate that the pain gets that bad. It's always at night too, which is so strange. He couldn't fall asleep until like 4am last night from the pain and then when Griffin and I got up this morning he got woken up. He's taking a nap now so hopefully he's getting the much needed rest he needs.
I know what you mean though Tracy, I don't care if we're dead broke just as long as he's better. It's kinda hard to make a 290 lb man go to the ER if he refuses though so I'm going to try the GI place tomorrow and see if I can complain enough to get him a strong rx until all this stuff is done with.
I'm on disability to try to get better and it seems more and more stuff just keeps on piling on. I'm just happy I'm not working at the moment because there is no way I would be able to without having a nervous breakdown between my MIL, my stuff and Shane's stuff. I hope Shane does okay tonight because my MIL has a dr's appointment tomorrow and I have been doing practically everything that she needs, getting rx's, bringing her home from the hospital and I'm pretty burned out and really need him to take her to this appointment. Guess I'll just wait and see and if he can't do it, I'll have to manage.
Again thank you to everyone. I am very lucky to have so many people here that care about us.

Aww, thanks Kim. I appreciate it. The Lupron still has my bladder flaring but it's not as bad as it was on Sunday or I wouldn't even be on the computer. It is still worse than it normally is though. It doesn't help that I had to take MIL to an 8:10 appointment to get her staples out from her knee replacement.

Shane has a really bad headcold at this point but hasn't had a gallbladder/stomach attack since Saturday night :woohoo: He's barely been eating anything except for like one sandwich a day though because he is afraid of having another attack.

I called the GI dr's office yesterday though and really complained. I said he doesn't have his endoscope scheduled until this upcoming Monday and then doesn't have a surgery consult scheduled until Feb 7th. I said he needs something strong for pain if he has another attack because the vicoden the ER dr gave him doesn't do anything and he refuses to go back to the ER because he knows it will only cost us a fortune and they won't do anything but give him pain meds and send him home.

The nurse had the nerve to say to me that the dr did not want to give him any more pain meds and mask his symptoms. I can't believe I stopped myself from cursing her out about that comment. I said so he should have attacks where his pain is a 10 until he gets these tests done and just suffer. She said that I needed to let her finish (oh her attitude made me want to reach through the phone and hurt her! :cussing:). She said the dr wants to move of Shane's surgery consult since he keeps on having attacks. So they got him an appointment with a surgeon for Thursday afternoon. I'm hoping that even though his hyda scan (test to check for gallbladder going back) came back normal since they saw the high liver enzyme count on his blood work from when he was in the hospital they will realize that he needs surgery. NP said this meant he had a blockage somewhere in his gallbladder or bile duct. So hopefully the surgeon will see that something does indeed seem to be wrong with his gallbladder and they will schedule surgery asap to take it out.

We are such a fun family, MIL had total knee replacement Jan 7th, Shane will probably have surgery the end of this month beginning of Feb if we are lucky and then in the next couple of months I'll be getting a hysterectomy. We are such a mess around here.

I will not lie, I am scared to death about Shane having surgery. I rationally know that gallbladder surgery is very common and isn't something that is life threathening but then the wife in me kicks in and I get scared. But as long as the surgery will make him feel better and he'll never have one of these attacks again then I'll be happy.

I think I'll have to talk to my dr on Thursday about pain meds because between the Lupron upsetting my bladder and all the stress from Shane I might need more than I usually use. I felt like I was going to have a nervous breakdown yesterday but I can and will get through this.

Christine -

Not sure how I missed this - but wanted to tell you how sorry I am that all of this is going on - and that I am thinking of you and your family. When it rains it pours - doesn't it?
I hate that during your time off - all of this is going on - but your life sounds alot like mine - and it just happens that way - doesn't it?
I hope everyone gets better soon - and TRY not to worry.

Sorry to hear you are having such a hard time. My doctor wanted me to go on the Lupron shots, but I refused. I take Yasmin continually for my endometriosis. It is wonderful. If I miss a pill and I start the pain comes back. I do think it may cause me to have some frequency problems. My sister did terrible on the shot and had horrible side effects too. I hope you get to feeling better soon! Hang in there.
