I love Pyridium. It takes the burning, feel your bladder all day long feeling away like nothing else. But I can't stand the orange everywhere. I get so sick and tired of the orange I stop taking it after a day or so... Is there a drug like Pyridium with out the orange???? TIA!

Yes, there is Prosed DS and Urelle, but it will turn your urine blue instead of orange. I couldn't take Pyridium because it made me extremely sick to my stomach and caused burning when I peed. But with those meds, you can take them long-term. My prescription is for 1 pill 4 times a day. I have been on it since August and I have been able to decrease alot of my other meds, especially my pain meds during the day. I read about Proced DS on a thread on this site and researched it since I was having so much pain that woke me up in the middle of the night. It was a burning, stabbing type pain and my urethea area was so irritated that my pain meds couldn't touch. My doctor tried me on alot of the nerve meds such as Neurontin, Lryica and Topomax, but I couldn't handle the side effects. It did take a couple of weeks for me to see the full benefits of the med, but once it started doing it's thing, I could count the times on 1 hand that I have woken up with that same type feeling.

Does the blue stain everything like the orange does? And why does it have to change the color at all? Weird!

The urelle is a much fainter color than the pyridium, and doesn't put a ring around the toliet bowl:lmao: I am also a pyridium worshiper:bow:

Yes, the blue stains as well, but at least it's a pretty color blue. I have learned to wear black underwear whenever possible. I have no idea why they have to have the dye in them, actually never thought about it. I just know that the meds like that cause orange or blue pee. I was on Trac 2 which was much like Prosed when I was first diagnosed 20 years ago. It turned my pee blue as well and it worked great, but it was taken off the market. Back then I never knew why, they just didn't offer it anymore.
But as a hint, if you drink alot of water, it dilutes the color so it's not as staining. You are supposed to drink 8 ounces of water with each dose anyway, but I have started drinking 8 ounces every hour or so. Now when I pee, the water is just a light blue. I also would like to mention, that at the same time I started taking this med, I no longer have the need for 2nd voids, my bladder doesn't have spasms after I empty especially if I hold it too long like it did for many years. I also can hold my bladder for quite a while without feeling the need to empty. I work a full-time job and I probably go to the bathroom on the average of 1 to 2 times during my work day. Even after my implant, the longest I could wait since I knew I would have spasms if I didn't empty when I felt the urge was 2 hours or so. I also empty about 8 to 10 ounces at a time. I kept a voiding diary for a couple of weeks.

I take prosed ds, it turns your urine blue but its nothing like the pyridium, it doesn't stain everything. And if you drink alot of water, its not even bad at all. Tracy83 I also cannot take pyridium cause it makes me burn when I pee also and it also flares my Vulvodynia, its really irritating to me. :)

I can remember when my favorite doctor first left to work on the other side of the state. The doctor that took her place kept insisting that I should take Pyridium. She wasn't a good listener! I told her it made me so sick, I would rather hurt. She said that she never had any patients that refused Pyridium. I knew from that moment on that she was not the doctor for me, plus I "googled" her and looked at her resume and didn't see a thing about her specializing in IC. I immediately emailed my wonderful Dr. Ragi and she gave me the name of another doctor. I found out later that most of her patients transferred to my doctor.
I am sorry to hear that you had problems, but I am also glad to know that I am not the only one as she made me feel!

I had turned a prescription in December for pyridium. It seems as though it is causing me more burning or isn't touching any of my burning. I like Urelle better. It is blue/green, but it wipes up more easily. I left a horrible orange stain at my son's teacher restrooms when I was helping out Friday. Icky.

Hi Laurie, I found an over the counter med like pyridium at CVS. I believe it was the CVS brand. I only used it a couple times in July and the reason I liked it was that it had no discoloration at all to my surprise. It was effective for me but I cant take any of those thing because my liver is bad but they probably still sell it. Chuchideb

Just wanted to let you know there are several generics out there for urelle. I used to take one called urimar-t. Now it goes by utira-c. It does turn your pee blue. It did leave a permanent blue ring around the toilet bowl that I can't get out no matter how hard I scrub. So I solved that problem by buying the blue tablet you throw in the toilet tank! So now the water is blue all the time! My husband has gotten so used to my blue pee! When I first put the tablet in the tank and it got started, my husband saw the instense blue color of the water and asked if I was taking a higher dose of my medicine!! So much for IC humor!

I found Azo and Uristat but they both seem to be the orange pee kind. What is the generic over the counter bill one called? And where do you find it? Thanks!

Please follow the directions on the container. Don't take more then it says. My Granddaughter age 20 almost had to have her kidney removed due to the fact she had a UTI and didn't want to take time from college classes to see a Doctor. She OD'ed for a month. Once she did get to the Doctor it was a very real emergency!!! Ziggy
