Hi,
I am going to have one of the nerve blocks. Is Pedendal the block in front? I am going to have the block done that is on the front side of the spine. Is it called Pedendal?

How do they do the procedure? Is a catscan performed? What can I expect? How about the cost? Is it really expensive (like a surgery cost). I have insurance, but was just wondering.... I am still paying on my last surgery.

One additional question: After your nerve block (and it provided relief), were you able to return to somewhat of a 'normal' life? Can you have sex without pain? Can you feel 'anything' down there?
Thanks!
Anke

Every dr is different but your pudendal nerve ends in your lower butt cheek right where it is about to curve into your upper thigh. It's kinda closer to the middle towards your privates. I always have trouble explaining where it is but if I had a picture I sure could show you, lol. I've been getting weekly pudendal nerve blocks for about a month in a half.
I don't know if this is what you are having done or not but MY dr just pushes on the area where the nerve is until I feel the pain shooting up into my pelvis and then he knows he has the right area, keeps his finger on the spot so he doesn't forget where it is and then does the injection. If you have so many questions about what you are going to have done I would def ask the dr before they do it. Hope that helps some.

Christine and I use the same doctor so same as above. In all honesty, it does hurt to have the block done but then there is numbness quickly after. I had my third done yesterday and he definitely hit the nerve on both sides. I am not so numb now but I am glad that the steroids are in there. Good luck to you. And like Christine said, ask questions. My doctor explained it all showing me on the diagram on the wall exactly what he would do and then poked at the nerve to find the right spot and then told me when the needle would touch my skin and then he poked the needle through and slwoly injected the meds. No steroids the first time. Now I know what to expect and look forward to going for some relief.

I just had this injection done this morning. I did it locally. It really wasn't that bad. I decided not to have any anethesia(sp?). They tried to convice me but I didn't have anyone to drive me home. I did the caudal the same way and I thought they hurt about the same. They told me the pudendal would hurt more but I didn't think so. I did take a extra percocet right before and I think that helped.
I really felt ok until after I peed. Then it hurt some all day but in the evening the pain got worse. Is that because the numbness wore off? Also my lower back hurt almost as much as with the caudal. I understand the caudal because it was done in the butt but this was done near the vagina. Did anyone else have the back ache?
I really hope this helps my pain.....Did any of your pain relief happen right away?

I had a total of 8 done and I am doing great now. Every once in awhile I get a pain down there but it doesn't last. I can sit in the car for lopng car rides and not suffer forever after. We drove a total of 5 hours on Saturday (2 1/2 each way) and I did not flare from it and my pain level was still low. I did used to notice that the pain was worse whenit wore off but I think that it because after it is numb, you are more aware of the pain when it returns. I have not had one done in over 2 months and I feel great! Good luck to you!

I am scheduled to have a pudendal block before my PT next week. I don't have any pain from sitting, so I guess the block is to keep the PT from hurting as much?

I have to go out of town a few days after this block. Does everyone get flare-up pain after thier blocks? What should I do to be prepared?

Mine wasn't too bad that I had last Monday. I was a little sore where I had the injection but it wasn't as bad as I thought it would be. As the numbness wore off then I started to have some pain. I really can't tell if the injection has helped yet. At some points in the day I feel better and than others I am in more pain. Sorry I am not more help.
