First off I have had IC, or at least thats what the past urologist told me I have for 8 years now. I went to 5 urologists at a military hospital, and they all said "its all in my head". Then I found one about 45 min from the house and he told me I have IC. He did 3 cysto/hydro, no biopsies. Well now that I work in DC, I chosed a urologist near my work. I went to see him yesterday and he gave me Vesicare to use. He mentioned something about the OR and biopsy. Has anyone biopsy done when undergoing a crysto/hydro? I surely hope I"ll be put under sleep if I need a biopsy. This new urologist is a college professor. He told me that IC is more accurately diagnosed by a biopsy. I thought that cysto/hydro is the best way to determine if a patient has IC or not because of the looks of the bladder?

The Report of Operation I have from my cysto/hydro says that "no biopsies were performed". Yet, I was still diagnosed with IC.

Usually, if a hydrodistention is used with a cystoscopy, the procedure is done while you are under anesthesia. The best way to find out if that is the case with your doctor is to ask.

I have heard that some Drs perform the biopsy to look for mass cells..You should ask your Dr what is the main reason he is doing the biospy and what is he looking for and mention about the mass cells..
