Has anyone else tried cytotec recently? I am seeing my Uro on monday and was thinking of trying to rip a script for it. I am sort of in between medications and thought it was a good opportunity to try something else. It seems like those who have tried it and had positive results noticed them very quickly; within a week or so. I am also a male so am not susceptible to the potential harsh side effects...Hopefully the Uro will take this into account.
I also want to bring along a copy of at least the abstract and results from the study that used cytotec, I have done some searching online and I have found the article listed on some sites but it costs $35. Does anybody know where I can get it for free?

I got a script for cytotec and hopefully will be posting in the "success" section of this forum soon. I will keep everyone posted on my status with this off the label treatment. I am taking 200 micrograms twice daily.

I have been taking cytotek for 1 week now and I am having some improvement in pain. I'm wondering if you are still taking it and if so if you have any improvement. If not, I'd like to hear about that too. Good luck and thanks.

I stopped taking cytotec today. I took cytotec for two weeks and did not notice any difference, if anything I got a little worse, probably because I couldn't take prelief with some meals that i suspected may be a little on the acidic side, since acid reducers greatly inhibit the action of cytotec.
From my own research on previous posts, those who were helped by cytotec were helped almost immediately...within a week. Therefor, I told myself that I would try cytotec for two weeks to see if it was the magic bullet it proved to be for others. At two weeks and no discernible difference, I am giving it up.
I was taking 200 mcg twice daily for two week's. This is equal to or more than the dose that those who were helped saw differences with. On the upside, I had little to no side effects during the trial.
Didn't work out for me...I will move on. But if I were you, I would say it's worth a try, my urologist was very willing to give it to me even though it's off label and he hadn't heard of it being used for IC before...he said it was rather innocuous.

I am going back to elmiron.....I was on it for about 7 months and it really did start helping toward the end. Thats why I went off of it, to see if it was the elmiron or just my PFD getting a lot better and other factors. It wasn't...the elmiron really helped, and while i think MSM helps a little, glucosamine has not seemed to do anything for me.
I am looking forward to starting it again and continuing to improve. I am actually just about to take a pill and go to bed.

Thanks for letting me know your results. I think you are doing the right thing by going back on Elmiron. It is an unusual drug in that it works great for some but not at all for others, and it can take a very long time to work. If the longest you have taken it is for 7 months, you likely have not seen your best results yet. It can be at least a year before you maximize your results. Also, you should be very careful to take as directed on an empty stomach if you can because it is poorly absorbed. I have been on Elmiron for 12 years
Over that time period, I have been in remission for the majority of that time, and my IC was at least in the moderate to severe category. Another thing to keep in mind is that although the recommended dose is 1 capsule three times a day, many patients take a higher dose and have gotten better results with that, but that should be for your doctor to recommend if you don't get great results from the usual dosage. As for me, unfortunately, I had the worst flare of my life last year, and can't quite get back into remission despite tons of elmiron, and all of the other stuff like MSM, quercitin, glucosamine etc. I am now at 8 days on Cytotek and I think it is helping. I think this drug should be tried only after failing all other treatment modalities. Best of luck.
