I went to my monthly doctor's appt last Friday. I didn't get to see my usual doctor since he was at a seminar, but I was assured that I would get my usual meds. I saw the other doctor that mainly works with the ob side of the practice. I waited forever with waiting room full of pregnant people, then waited even longer in the back and kept listening to baby's heartbeats. I also heard her send 2 patients directly to the hospital. It was a busy day! My doctor mainly works with uro/gyno issues. Anyway, I was due for my Depo shot, actually I was a week late, so the doctor told me that she would feel more comfortable if I had a preg test. I know my eyes had to be as big as saucers! I told her that there was no way I was pregnant. She simply said, have you been exposed? I was so puzzled at first and then I realized what she was saying. I said, sure I have had sex, I was married (I said that like sure everyone that is married has sex all the time!). My husband said that I should have said, I may have, but I had slept since then! She said since there could be a slight chance of me being pregnant, she felt better if I had the test. Then all the sudden I broke out laughing and told her that my hubby had been fixed for 19 years, so I just wasn't used to that question. She said oh okay, I guess we can cancel that test.
I was a little irritated that she didn't have my entire file, just my list of meds, but that is really all I was there for was to get my meds. I am so ready to start going at least every couple of months, but since my usual doctor will be out of town next month, I have to see the other doctor again. It is so fun sitting in a room with pregnant women and listening to all their excitement and fears.

I knew a man in his 70's who was diagnosed with malignant myeloma. His doctor wanted him to take thalidamoid (not sure of spelling there) which is know to cause severe birth defects such as missing limbs. He and his wife, who also was in her 70's, had to sign paperwork promising to use "protection" to avoid pregnancy. They both got a chuckle out of that!

Honestly, you would think an ob/gyn could come up with a better term than "exposed!" It makes it sound as if sperm is a disease. :lmao:
ps -- When my daughter Susannah was 10 years old and not yet menstruating, she had a series of hip surgeries. Now, Susannah has always looked a bit older than her age; she's fairly tall, has a narrow face, and because she is a very serious swimmer, all the muscle she has makes her look a bit more developed than she really is. But still, they had her chart, they should have known she was 10. The nurse would not take her word or mine that she was not yet menstruating, and insisted that she have a pregnancy test each time. And the nurse would come up and whisper to me, "She's clear!" and pat my shoulder -- as if I had been worried about the outcome of the test. People just get caught up in procedures.

I've hear it all now! LOL
Thanks for giving me a good belly laugh!
Tracey,
Is your usual doctor going to be out of town all of this month? I have an appt. on Monday a.m. and they did not mention that it would not be the usual one. I already have a list of questions ready for him so I hope that they do not do a switch-a-roo on me. I'm not sure I want to be "exposed" to the other doctor--LOL.
Thanks,
Janice
