I was curious if anyone takes effexor for depression and your results. I'm currently on a very weak dose of prozac, 5mg, and am feeling better, even though I was disgnosed w/fibromyaglia early this week. I'm feeling generally more optimistic and positive, which is a good change. Dr Evans suggested that I disc the change to effexor w/my psych dr. I wanted to know your experiences first. I will still discuss it with him, but felt if the prozac was doing some good then I should keep with it. (I've been through several antidepressants).
Any thoughts are appreciated!

If Prozac is already working for you then you might stick with it a little longer and see how you do. How long have you been taking it? It is so hard to find an antidpressant that not only works, but has the fewest side effects possible. I cannot take any of the SSRIs because they all make me horribly nauseated. The same thing with Tricyclics like Elavil. All of my drs have been so disappointed because they all think Elavil would be the miracle drug for my IC and Fibro. Effexor is an SNRI which is a different class then Prozac. I read an article recently that SNRIs are a bit better at treating pain then SSRIs (like Prozac). So maybe this is why your dr suggested switching? I tolerate SNRIs better myself but everyone reacts differently to these drugs so it would be hard for someone to tell you what to do.

I am on Effexor. I was slowly brought up to 150mg every morning. I also take mirtazipine at night. This is for anxiety and depression. I have had to increase these over that past year due to IC symptoms. I am still not officially diagnosed with IC.

Well i am on effexor and i find it great for my depression and it doesn't make my head feel all heavy like cipralex did.....which is just an SSRI
You can take prozac with effexor....just make sure the effexor is low dose and check which dosing is the maximum to take together....
you don't want to over-do the serotonin.....
I love effexor personally for my depression...it hasn't done anything for the IC though....not made it worse and not better....
But i do love it for my depression though....
All you gotta do is check with the pharmacist to see what dosing is right to take them together and you can try that and see how that is......
Like right now i am at like over a 150 mg's of effexor and am starting elavil to see if that helps with the IC and IBS.....
i hope this sorta helped you....
and if you just like prozac i say stay with that.....stick with what works....
anyway i hope you find some relief......
we all need that.............:toilet::bonk::loco:
take great care
hugs
