Im throwing a baby shower for my best friend. I have never thrown a baby shower before.

She is having a boy and she is due mid March. They have already named him: Rees Aiden.

The shower is Jan 26. We are expecting 30-40 people.

The theme for the babys room is Illini (our local college). The colors are orange and blue. We are doing the shower in this theme also.

Here's what I got so far:
-We are just doing cake. The shower is at 2pm, so with that many people and the time, we didnt feel the need for actual food. The grandma is doing the cake (she did my wedding cake and it was beautiful!).

-I am going to serve spiced cider and ice water. The cider will be served out of my moms punch bowl; the water out of a very nice pitcher that I got for a wedding gift (it just happens to be light blue!)

-games:
baby bingo
guess the baby food
the one where you guess the girth of the mom by cutting string and see if it fits around the mom

I am not going to make my friend wear one of those hokey "mom to be" pins. Im going to have a corsage made for her.

The thing Im having the most trouble with is trying to find special touches and decorations that can make this shower stand out. This is where I need you guys. I know many of you are moms. I would love to know about your showers and what made them special. This is the first friend of our little group to have a baby. I really want to make her feel special. Thanks!:hi:

My niece recently had a baby shower and had everyone bring a children's book for the baby's library.

I seen this really neat thing where it's a frame but it was not a hard frame, You could even make one yourself and everyone that attends signs it and then her picture being preg is put in it. This is a great after shower present and it will always remind her of who came and when she was preg to put in her baby book..

I've been to a number of baby showers... and they were all a blast. Each of them had very nice decorations. We have a party store in town and they have EVERYTHING you could possible need.
The last one I went to was for one of family friends. The woman hosting did ask that everyone bring a children's book for the baby library. It was great!!!! I love playing the games... alot of people do. That;s the fun part. there's a game where you take 4-5 candy bars and melt them in a baby diaper and then you pass the diapers around and everone has to guess what the candy is inside and whoever guesses them all right wins a prize. Its really funny because if ya get chocolate candy or reeses or stuff like that it looks like real baby poop.
I hope everything goes well and you have a great time!!!

You are so sweet for doing that! That's alot of people!

If the mom is going to scrap book, a good thing would be to have some things to help with her scrapbooking. When I had my shower over 24 years ago, the most special thing for me was a advice or a funny story on being a mom. Each piece of paper was placed on the page with Bible verse that was special to that person. The Bible was a Bible for Moms.

I went to a baby shower recently and they made sure to take pictures of each person with the mom-to-be and made an album as her keepsake.

I am doing a wedding shower for one of our best friends daughters which will mainly consist of girls that were her friends from our youth group. I am calling it "First Things" as the theme. I am writing things on each invitation like buy something for the couple's first dinner party, or first game night, or first Christmas, first movie night, first breakfast in bed, first spring cleaning day, etc. Since our church is also throwing one for her that the gifts will pretty much be picked from their gift registry, I thought (well I actually got the idea from a friend) that it would be a nice change of pace. I am also asking everyone to bring their favorite recipe with their gift.

I went to a baby shower and we all paired up in twos and was given a roll of toliet paper (I know a valueable item) each pair had to wrap the partner in tp to make an out fit, the best dressed tp baby won a prize.. then there is the saftey pin, if someone catches someone crossing there legs they can ask for their pin.
Ok you can go and get carnations hand have then colored blue and orange place 3 or 4 in a vase on each table. also look on line and type in, decorations for babyshoer and get lots of cool ideas.
have fun, and you are so sweet to do this for her.

I love the everyone bring a book. I like the idea for everyone to leave a message in the book for the baby,

You can also search "Baby Shower" and you can find a few sites for ideas, games etc. I used this sort of thing for a good friend of mine when planning her bridal shower, I just put out search of "Bridal Shower"! It really came in handy, even had stuff to keep you organized etc!!! ;)
