I have had IC for 16 years. I have read where people have went into remission. My question is has anyone went into remission after years of IC? I have hoped for it but no luck, I went for 10 years with no treatment because none of the doc's I went to knew what it was.

My mom has ic too, and she went into remission for years.
I hope you find your magic treatment to help you feel less pain.

Since there are almost 22,000 members and not even close to that posting, I have to think that this is very possible. I hope it happens for you. :)

yes, do not give up. I was in remission for a full three years, and was in pretty darn good shape for five after 2.5 years of he**. Now I'm back in flare, but I do believe that remissions happen under many circumstances. Our bodies are always changing. They always say we get worse with age, I don't agree! I'm in the best shape of my life at 37, and overall, much healthier than I was at 21! Also, menopause brings great relief to women suffering things like endometriosis. Given the hormonal component of this disease, I can't help but think that the same would be true for some with IC.
Plus, I think there are great medical advances in pain relief. While I do not believe we'll have a cure soon, I do think that pain management is getting better exponentially.

butterfly249,
I am so sorry you had to go 10 years without no treatment. That is just awful. But I do believe there is hope for many.. Like Sharon said just look at how many members we have and pnly a handful post.. So the others must be feeling better..I hope you start feeling better soon..

I agree with OrlandoP! I also had a long and blissful remission. I'm out of it now, but on my way back.
I'm not in remission, but my IC is now pretty well managed.... I work full time, attend classes, church, work out at the gym. I still watch my diet very carefully, take prescribed meds, do home bladder instillations, do physical therapy exercises, so I don't call it remission. I still have some symptoms, but don't have the grinding 24/7 misery I had for several years... I'd love remission, but I'm ok with today...
I once got a list of IC patients willing to take calls from other patients. Of the twenty or so on the list, over half were in remission when I called them. Most did not know why they were in remission, but were thrilled. Most had had IC for years, then it went away. (I don't know where it went, but I'd like to buy my IC a one-way ticket to there too!)

I'm like Kadi -- I'm not in remission, but I have mostly symptom-free days with watching my diet very closely and taking my supplements. I'm thankful for this, as I can function. Butterfly--I hope you can get to a place where you feel the same!! Perhaps it might just take longer since you didn't have any treatment for 10 years. I can only say for me, diet is HUGE! I've not only adjusted to an IC diet, but also do lots of raw foods/mostly veges. I responded very well to eliminating sugar from my diet (which supposedly converts to acid in our bodies), so I started thinking that maybe my IC was worse with too much acidic foods in my diet. Green raw veges are very alkaline. I'm trying it for a few months to see if I can feel even better!! Stay positive! :smile tee

I don't know if I'm in remission - but the combination of medications I take (see below) has me pain free 98% of the time! I can still feel something not quite right down there - but I haven't had a full flare up in (oh please, knock on wood!!!!!!) two years. I'm positive its the medication though - because I once forgot to take my pills one night, and two days later - I started to flare up.

Hang in there Butterfly249!! I too was not diagnosed because they didn't know what is was. I was 20ish when it started, and I was diagnosed in Jan 06 at the age of 40. I suffered with IC symptoms and UTI's off and on for years!!! I too hope that I see a remission, and believe I may have had a remission after a cysto when I was 22 that lasted for quite some time.
I'm with you Kadi!!! I hope my IC goes where their has gone too!! It's kind of like where socks dissappear to!!!
I needed to see this thread because I've been feeling really low lately so thanks for the up lift!!

I was in remission for almost 7 years so yes it can happen. I never had a diagnosis until this latest flare last year. I am now managing my IC very well. I agree that most people who are doing well probably don't post here as often. I wouldn't consider myself in remission now since I still cannot exercise without major symptoms but at least I'm able to work, eat, walk, and have sex without pain.
I just wanted to say Thank you to the **** for sending me into remission of my IC. I have suffered for three years prior to beginning accupunture and tradition Chinese Herbal medicine teas. I have been free of pain since my first day of treatment. I had gone to many Doctors and tried many things. I wish more people with IC could come and see Dr.Yeh! He is so smart about understanding the body and natural medicines. I would recommend it for IC suffers so much!!!!!!When you are in so much pain what do you have to loose by tring other options. I would just highly recommend seeing someone who is very good about understanding natural medicines. I hope this might help some one else out there!! Stay Strong IC Suffers-Hope is on the way!
