Hello all. My name is Krista. I am newly diagnosed with IC (DEC 26 2007). My urologist had his nurse call me on the 26th and tell me about the diagnosis.... which he believed would be negative. At the time of the hydro and biopsies he decided to cauterize my bladder to encourage healing of the bladder lining (because he didn't believe I had IC). Well, turns out I have a severe case of IC and I'm curious to know if anyone thinks the cauterization made it worse? It FEELS much worse. I'm on Elmiron... following the diet... and in incredible pain. He won't even give me pain medication to help me cope with the absolutely debilitating pain I have in my bladder, urethra and upper thighs. He keeps telling me to wait the 4 weeks to DMSO and see how that goes.
Any help would be much appreciated.
Krista

Sounds like he may have cauterized some adhesions or if he removed any biopsies, they cauterize that too. My doctor did that and I was in pain, but the hydro is painful all on it's own for quite a while. My hydro actually made me feel worse and wasn't effective like it is on alot of people. It just depends on the person if the hydro or even the DMSO treatments work.

Please keep us posted.

I had some cauterizing done during early hydrodistentions, but my doctor did give me pain medications to ease the recovery time. You might want to talk with your primary care doctor about something to help with pain.

Warm well wishes headed your way,
Donna

Hello and :welcome: to the ICN

I am sorry that he will not give you anything. Donna is right maybe your primary will give you something or your GYN. But in the meantime you could ask for Pyridium or you can buy urastat over the counter. A heating pad always seems to help me when I am in pain and have no pain meds to take.
I hope you get some relief soon..

sorry that you are in pain, nobody should have to suffer. i would go to your local gp, I did and she gave me tramadol (ultram) for the pain.
