I have had IC for the past 16 years. I have been put on several meds but my drug tolerance is so low I am not able to function while taking them. I have also had trouble with acid reflux, nausea, constipation, bloating, pain in my right side, lower back pain, severe exhaustion and all kinds of new allergies to meds and environment. Not to mention I have depression and anxiety attacks which runs in my immediate family. A friend of mine who is a nurse told me I needed to be checked for IBS. Does anyone else experience any of these similar problems?

I've had IC for 4-1/2 years. Like you, I've had the IC, constipation (maybe from meds, maybe IBS since all members of my immediate family have that), bloating (maybe from constipation, but also happens when I flare), times of exhaustion, development of food allergies (fish, shellfish, avocado, peanuts, tree nuts, legumes, soy), development of antibiotic allergies (am now allergic to all oral antibiotics except Macrobid). I've had anxiety attacks since age 10, both my parents & aunt also have them. Oh, yeah & I have PFD also.

We're a fun group, aren't we?

I have IC, IBS-D, anxiety and depression. I also think I have PFD but I'm not scheduled with the pelvic pain specialist until 2/08.

It's very common for people to have more than one thing when you start getting the autoimmune issues. I have IC, endo, PFD, pudendal nerve issues, and my dr thinks I have anxiety due to all the pain which is just making the pain worse. I don't think I have IBS but have had some constipation issues lately due to the pain meds.

I've got IBS, IC, depression, anxiety, chronic fatigue, lower back pain. Just found out from an MRI I have a herniated disk and a deteriorating disk in my lumbar vertebra. :cussing: You certainly are not alone. :grouphug:

Yeah, like everyone else here, same pain and fun. I started going to my doctor with pain in my right side, that eventually led to my IC diagnosis. Something about the right side. They thought I had Chron's Disease so I went though the fun colonoscopy. Then they thought it was IBS. I've had every test known to man done, I swear. I do a lot of natural stuff so I try to stay away from taking a lot of meds. It works for me, so far. I was told that because of the IC, other problems like IBS and Chron's are common but you also tend to have the symptoms of those diseases without actually having them. Unfortunatly for autoimmuine diseases, all the symptoms look and act the same for the most part.

Good luck and I hope you feel better! :toilet:

I have never been diagnosed with IBS, but have always believed I have it. My stools have never been normal since I was a little girl. I have bloating and gas often, IC, and have always had back pain including sciatic nerve problems. For the longest time I was seeing a Chiro at least once a month. My back and stomach were killing me two nights ago. I went to the dr. yesterday thinking maybe the gallbladder. He thinks they are separate issues. My mom has fibro and I'm sure I'll get it since her sister has it too. Anxiety runs in my family and I have had anxiety since I was little. I am now taking Celexa and doing an anxiety program through Midwest Center for Stress and Anxiety.

My histamine levels in my blood are boderline high so I should probably be checked for food allergies. I do believe I have dermagraphism. My skin puffs up, forms like a hive and gets hot and itchy upon pressure. I just got my blood drawn yesterday to be checked for thyroid problems.

Seems like a lot of these issues are intertwined.

I too am one of the gang with IC, IBS, Barrett's Esophagus, Neuropathy, Myopathy...you name it! I have a terrible time taking medication because I always have all the "bad" side effects...never the good ones! It's very true......once you get IC you have such a tendency to get everything else that effects autoimmune.....it's the pits!

I was actually diagnosed with IBS before IC, as well as pfd, depression. I have a lot of right sided pain, i have recently be diagnosed with fibro.
It seems that we are all in the same boat.
