I hope everyone had a wonderful holiday -

I did far too much over the holiday break (sex, walking, family obligations etc.) and I now appear to be experiencing a new "issue". My pelvic muscles are so tight - I can actually feel them tightening when I lay down at night. I've been taking baths twice a day to help - but now that I am back to the work grind it will be harder to fit this into my daily schedule. I've noticed that the last several times I had sex that for DAYS afterwards - I appear to be trying to develop hemmorids (or at least that is what it feels like)- I have NEVER had this problem before - (even when my children were born) and I quite confused.

Does anyone know if this is related to my PFD and if so does anyone have any suggestions?

I am not sure, sounds like it is related to the ic. I would make a quick call to the nurse and find out, just for peace of mind.

I'm sorry to hear about your pelvic muscle pain. I experienced something similar when I was first diagnosed with IC. I had these pains I called "involuntary kegels" because it felt like I was doing a kegel and I wasn't trying to. It was worse at night when I tried to sleep. Often the pain spread and I got rectal spasms too. I developed hemorrhoids about the same time. I was in so much pain it was hard to tell when I needed to have a bowel movement. It was awful!

I found a new gyn who knows a lot about IC and he diagnosed PFD. He could easily tell from feeling my vaginal muscles when I tried to tighten them and when I coughed. At that time I couldn't really even do a kegel. I wasn't able to isolate those muscles due to all the pain.

I went to a physical therapist and she was wonderful. We worked on my pelvic and abdominal muscles. She did this trigger point release internally and it hurt at first but then the pain slowly went away. I did biofeedback too and that helped. For me I think the combination of getting my bladder pain under control and the physical therapy eased my pelvic muscle pain. When I flare I can definitely feel my pelvic muscles tightening up again in response to the pain. Then I take Xanax and it helps me sleep and relaxes my muscles. Yoga helps too.

I'd definitely talk to my doctor about it. The warm baths and heating pad helped me a little but not enough. Hope you feel better soon...Sue

Thanks Sue - at least I know I'm not going crazy now :) - Lots of stress going on - which does not help either I know - I will discuss further with my doctor.

I agree. I am currently having PT 2x a week..it has made a HUGE difference. i would lie down and not be able to relax because my PF was so tight. Try doing some deep breathing where your belly and pelvic area rise up and down instead of your chest. See about doing this for 10 minutes. It has helped me so much.
