I have been in a HUGE flare for a couple weeks now and have developed a very painful rash. does anyone else ever experience this? and what do you use for it. its killing me everytime I go to the bathroom. would something like desitine used for diaper rash work?
Thank you for any and ALL help, I'm desperate and will try anything!

If the rash is just in the perineal area, it could be from the toilet tissue. I always make sure to buy plain white, unscented. Or it could be from laundry soap or the soap you use when you shower. You might try double rinsing your underwear and avoid soap on the tender areas to see if that helps.

I hope it's better soon.

I only get it when I'm in a flare and/or leaking really bad. which I have been for the last last month/month and a half. so i think its form the acid in the urine burning me. I had a urine test done and I dont have a UTI. so its just all from the flare. I did get some desitine clear and that seems to sooth it some. we shall see I guess.

Thanx or the help though :)

You're not alone! I've had that same feeling ever since my last UTI (Which did clear up, so I know its not that). I don't think its yeast, as I don't have any of hte other symptoms of that, and I agree, it feels like a burning when you pee. I'd like to find out myself how to fix this.

I think Desitin is great for things like that. They have a creamy formula out now that isn't so hard to wash off. Scrubbing that older Desitin off is painful in itself!

Hope you feel better soon!

Do you by any chance have VV? I had a spot in that area that itched and itched and itched. I didn't think anything about it until my current dr tested me for VV. He touched the area with a qtip and it felt like he was poking me with a stick! I couldn't believe it. He gave me lidocaine ointment to put on it each night at bed. It burns for the first couple of minutes and then it goes numb. He said it is to desensitize the area. It is helping alot because if I forget to do it for a day or two or if I wash with soap down there which is a no no for VV it acts right back up. If it is VV he told me to do the things Donna suggested as well as not using any type of cleanser on the area at all. You should only use warm water but sometimes it drives me nuts not to use soap because then I don't feel really clean so I use it anyway but even Dove will irritate it.

We have an old family remedy for diaper rash that we use for evrything. When pap was sick and covered in 1 inch deep bed sores, it was the only thing that gave him relief. He said it was the most soothing thing on his bedsores he ever felt. We even snuck it into the hospital to apply on him. The other things like niacin(SP) and wound cleaner/ointment were very painful to him. I have a kid and don't even have desitin in my house. My dr told me about this when my daughter was little and developed thrush. None of the rx ointments or anything would clear it up. She was in such agony I would have tried anything. She had thrush for over a month and after applying this 2 times the rash was gone. This is just a SUGGESTION. EVERYONE REACTS TO THINGS DIFFERENTLY SO USE AT YOUR OWN WILL. Just wanted to throw that in there before I got sniped at for giving medical advice. But you asked for any suggestions so here is mine. Even though it is ssomething you make and can't buy. I don't have experience with anything for rashes you can buy b/c I use this. I always have these two ingredients in my house just in case.

Get some cornstarch and milk of magnesia(SP) plain MOM not cherry or mint, I imagine that would burn like the dickens. I buy generic MOM. I have used both brand name and generic and not noticed any difference between the two.
*Put some cornstarch in a bowl
*Slowly add the MOM a little at a time until if forms a thick(spreadable) paste and all of the lumps are out. You don't want it to be too runny or it won't stay in place. Make it about the consistency of Desitin. Then apply.
*When it dries it will start to get hard and flake off. Just put some water on it, let it soak, then take a washrag and wipe it off. Don't scrub it or you will just irritate yourself.
*After you make the first batch you can put it in the fridge, when it is cold it is even more soothing.
*When the batch starts to get hard after you make it, and it will after a few days, just add some more MOM to it until it is a paste again.
Sorry it took me so long to see this post. I some how missed it. I haven't been on much because our internet security has been down so I have to sneak on when my hubby isn't looking.lol. Agin, if you have any doubt about this or think it will make things worse please don't try it. This is something that I have found works really well, for whatever reason. You may just want to apply it to a very small area at first to make sure it won't burn. I've used it on bedsores, yeast infections, thrush, diaper rash, even a burn I got on my finger and have always had great results. If this doesn't clear up soon you should contact you dr and make sure it isn't an infection. Hope this helps you some and again I'm sorry I was late in responding.

Thank you Sooo much. I will try that. I have tried desitine and it releives it some "at the time" but it doesnt get rid of it. and with as much leaking (sorry over share) as I have had lately, I NEED something that will work and I can keep using. I do remember my grandma using cornstarch for diaper rash. Thank you again.. I am DEFFINATELY going to try that. and I will call my doc if it isnt better soon. but hopefully this will work and I wont have to :).

You said you only get them when you are in a flare. Are you having DMSOs by any chance? When I used to get DMSOs, they used something to clean "down there" that gave me a TERRIBLE rash. They said it causes a rash for some people and since it caused a rash for me, they used something else to clean with. Also, when I was in a flare I would soak in the bathtub more and that irritated me even though it was just plain water. Soap and detergent may irritate you more when you're in a flare. I don't know if they make scented or colored toilet paper anymore but anything scented (tampons, pads, etc) can irritate. I use a benadryl cream when I get irritated.

No, I dont have DMSO's done. actually I'm not even sure what those are lol. anyway...I have been in a bad flare..partly my fault. stupid temptations :tsk: . But my urine is REALLY acidy right now and my body creates to much acid anyway as it is, then I went and had soda..SO STUPID!
and I leak pretty bad these days, especially the worse my flare gets. I try to change pads as often as possible, but I think the acid is so strong that its burning my skin before I have a chance to change it (alot of overshare..sorry!). So I think I need to find something that will help keep the moisture off my skin. as nasty as that may feel. the burn is even worse. But I will also try to cut down on whatever I can that may be sented.

If you're using pads made for incontinency, the deodorant in those can be extremely irritating. I know one brand causes me severe burning and horrible itching! I finally found one that doesn't irritate. You might just try using something like a folded paper towel around home for a day or two to see if the problem is any better. That way you would know.

The one I finally found that doesn't irritate for me is Tena --- I get the smallest size.

I get rashes from pads. Try Natracare brand or Seventh Generation. That may ease the tendency to get contact dermatitis.
