I'm considering pregnancy....just had the pre-conception visit with my ob-gyn this week. She gave me a lot of hope. She told me which drugs to stop taking (Amitryptiline), which ones are maybes (Neurontin), and which ones I can take to help with flares (she said narcotic pain killers are OK). One thing I didn't ask her is whether or not I can use my old stand by - an ice pack on my belly/bladder when I get that burning sensation at night while I'm trying to get to sleep. If you haven't tried it (and you're not pregnant), it's a great comfort to me. I put a wrapped ice pack in the front of my undies, so it sits right along the pubic bone, then I sleep on my belly. I love it! My question for you guys is, does anyone else do this and know if it would be bad during pregnancy? I'm afraid an ice pack would lower the temperature in my uterus or something.

Thanks in advance,
Jen

I was pregnant during the summer months and to help me keep cool I relied on an ice pack quite often. I had no problems during pregnancy. This was also pre-IC.

This is only my personal experience so it might be wise to run this question by your attending OB.

Wishing you well...

Hi Diana,
Thanks....did you use it on your belly/bladder?

Jen---I'd wrap the ice pack in a washcloth then place it on my stomach or on my inner thighs; putting something cold on those two areas would help keep me cool. I swear that summer was THE HOTTEST summer ever!..haha. Ice packs (and Slurpees) were my best friends.
I cant imagine using something cold would hurt, however like I mentioned, be sure to run this question by your OB.

I don't know about the pregnancy aspect, it's probably ok but ask your Dr. but ice pack, can't sleep without it.

Anybody know about heat? I've found a heating pad to be more helpful than an ice pack with my symptoms. Just wondering if that's OK when pregnant or should be avoided? (Of course, I'll ask about it whenever we do decide to have babies, but just thinking and wondering for now.)

heat is OK as long as you use it on low and don't raise your body temperature.

I am not pregnant, but I have found that anything cold causes my bladder to go into spasms. Stacey, I am glad I am not the only one.

An ice pack on my belly (like, on the pubic bone basically) is the one thing that helps me fall asleep when i've got burning. It seems to distract the nerves enough for me to go to sleep. I find the cooling sensation to be very soothing.
