I'm so confused. I'd been on Elavil for 4 months and my bladder pain vanished, i had no urgency and my frequency was much better, i also slept through the night without having to go! I was finally getting my life back, i also joined the gym and lost the half a stone i gained from being depressed and eating lots.

I went to see my consultant a month ago, and i wish i didn't! He told me i'm too young to take elavil long term, though i'm 20! and told me i have to come off them:tsk: I told him they help so much and i feel great, but he told me to try vesicare instead until i see him next in march.

I stopped the elavil and symptoms i forgot i had all came back, i'm in pain, constantly going to the loo and hardly sleeping:confused: after 3 weeks of this, and being on the new drug which was doing nothing, i started back on the elavil and have been for the past week, the pain is gone again, except my urgency/frequency isn't yet. I'm also still on the vesicare.

What should i do? Should i continue on the elavil although the doc says i can't take it? Should i stay on both the elavil and vesicare or just go back to the elavil? What if the doc takes me off it again? I'm so confused i thought anything that helps is ok to be on?

HELP!!

You have a choice... If you feel strongly about the Elavil and it was helping, why don't you go get a second opinion? If this Dr has taken you off the Elavil, I do not think it would be wise to mix the two medicines. Do as he says. He is the Dr.

But like I said you can get a second opinion or go see another Dr..
Elavil is what worked for me also. I had to quit it due to weight gain, but am taking Tofranil now. It works like Eavil but does not have the same side effects.

I can't believe a dr would take you off of a med that was helping so much. If you're on a low dose of Elavil which most of us are, I have no idea why he would say you can't be on it long term. Of course I'm not a dr but that's strange. I've been on Elavil for awhile with no real problems. If it helped you so much and you are so upset he took you off of it, I agree with Ronda, I would search for a different dr.

I agree with Ronda, Elavil has helped me so much. I would get a second opinion if you still want to take it. I am not sure as to why your doctor thinks you are to young, every doctor has there own reasons I am sure.

My suggestion is to make an appointment with your doctor and let him know that your symptoms returned when you stopped the elavil. I absolutely don't think you should take both medications without first talking with your doctor.

I would go back to that doctor or try another doctor, if the elavil was working why shouldnt you been on it? if you are in pain, you will try anything that works. I would rather be on meds for the rest of my life ( and try to live a normal life as possible) than be in pain. that is my motto!!

I am on Tofranil 10mg and Vesicare 5 mg. Vesicare alone does not help me with burning. I dont' think it has helped either with frequency since I still use the restroom a lot even after being on it for 2 months.

Definitely talk with the doctor.
