View Full Version : Finally! Prelief is working for me...

I've had IC since 1999 & have tried Prelief on & off at least half a dozen times but always gave up since it made no difference in the burning/stinging/frequency that plagued me. The last time I ordered, I ordered some powdered Prelief too...I don't know exactly why but I did.
I now take 2 Prelief tabs at each meal + extra if I have a glass of wine. The difference is that now I shake the powdered Prelief on any food I have even the slightest suspicion about (which means just about all of them) & the results have been incredible. I also put powdered Prelief in my coffee & tea as well--the tabs never helped with tea & coffee but adding the powdered directly to my food/beverages makes ALL the difference. The burning/stinging that tormented me & basically ruined my life is gone & I feel like a normal person. This is really incredible since its ended literally years of misery.
Don't know if this will help anyone else who's failed with Prelief but I wanted to share my accidental discovery just in case.
Betty: Is it OK to take as much Prelief as this? I know that there's supposedly no difference between the tabs and the powder but for me combining both tabs AND powder makes ALL the difference.

Okay, I've read so much about this and never tried it, so I've got to try it! I'm so tired of my bland boring diet and something I ate has got me burning for the last 24 hours anyway, so where do I order this from???

I never eat out without taking prelief beforehand. So far, it's worked and allowed me to eat some things I'd otherwise never be able to eat, in small amounts. The powder sounds like a good idea. Can you taste it on the food?

Does prelief allow you to eat foods on the "unsafe" list then? Can you eat anything when using prelief? I'm not quite sure how to use it!

Dear Systitis:
Some IC patients do prefer Prelief powder which is added to foods and beverages and removes the acid prior to consumption (without changing the taste).
Our recommended dosage is to take at least 2 tablets (1/4 tsp of powder is comparable to two tablets) with each meal and snack. It is almost impossible to take too much Prelief, in terms of safety or for any other reason. There is no practical limit to the amount of Prelief that can be taken although we suggest 30 or 40 tablets a day as a limit simply to "have a limit".
Prelief powder is available direct at www.prelief.com (1-800-994-4711), www.wholesalesupplementstore.com, and www.vnfnutrition.com.
I hope this is helpful. We will be closed from December 24th until January 2nd for the holidays. I will be glad to answer any questions when I return.
Happy Holidays!
Betty

Karen,
Prelief allows me to eat some unsafe foods, in small amounts. Today I ate two chocolate chip cookies. I took two prelief before each one, and have been fine.
But there are some triggers for me that are so bad that even prelief doesn't help. I still avoid them. And I wouldn't eat unsafe foods every day or in large amounts.

I had tried prelief but I felt it wasn't working. Maybe I needed to take it all the time. Is prelief the natural form of Urocit K?

To find out more information on Prelief, you can go into the Prelief site by clicking on the Prelief Bottle on ICN Home Page. Link is at the right on the very top of this page.
This is what I found there: Prelief's active ingredient, calcium glycerophosphate, is a compound categorized by the FDA as being Generally Recognized As Safe (GRAS).
I googled Urocit K and found that it is a prescription drug and the main ingredient is Potassium Citrate. It does have a limit on how much you can take in one day.

I was on Atarax and Urocit K from 3/05-2/06 and didn't have any improvement. Boo for me.

HI systitis
that's fantastic news. Very happy for you.
I haven't yet tried Prelief. My mum has ordered me some but the tablets, not the powder.
do you now find that you can eat/drink high-risk foods and be pain free? x

Hi Lauren....Yes, I can eat/drink high risk foods BUT I do so sensibly. For example, I had tomato sauce sprinkled with Prelief about 10 days ago & probably won't have it again for another week or so. I drink tea daily but sprinkle the powdered Prelief directly on the tea leaves (I use loose tea in a teapot) before pouring on the boiling water. However, I don't swill tea all day long...usually just have it for breakfast & maybe 1 cup in the afternoon. (Tea isn't really much of a trigger for me so please take this into account.)
I certainly don't go crazy with high risk foods, would never have them every day or even every other day but find that I can handle them + the powdered Prelief pain-free if I'm judicious.
My motto? Moderation in all things.

Hi there,
I am having a cystoscopy/hydrodistention procedure and was told to stop all vitamins and minerals two weeks before. Do you think this includes prelief? I used the tablets now..would the powdered stuff make a difference? Thanks for your time! I am worried because I have gotten used to taking it several times a day. Would appreciate any feedback!

Dear Melinda:
Unfortunately, Prelief (calcium glycerophosphate) is a mineral and if you have been advised not to take vitamins or minerals for 2 weeks prior, that would include Prelief tablets and powder.
If you have any questions, please do not hesitate to contact me direct at 1-800-994-4711.
