Ok, so I have been keeping up with everything in my Journal for my Dr. UGH. from food to meds. I never really thought twice about how a pain pill could be causing more harm. One I have been so sick these past few weeks, I just wanted anything, something to take the edge off. So I took Hydrocodone 7.5mg like it was a lifesaver. But now im beginning to wonder if it is causing this horrible painful burning everytime I void. So, I did an experiment yesterday and today. I didn't take one until 7 pm last night. Anyways Before I took it I noticed my burning wasn't as severe as it has been. And I haven't had one at all today...burning is there slighty but not as bad. But spasms remain. But it also could be that i started taking my 5mg Ditropan yesterday. So either it could be Ditropan is my new lifesaver on the second try or Hydrocodone is BAD. I mean im in pain at the moment, but im trying to be my own doctor in a way because God knows mine aren't much help these days...looong story. Right now all I have is my pain pill or ditropan. No Elmiron yet, probably not ill Jan. and since I cant get my atarax because the Slow doctor doesnt listen when I say I need liquid not pills because i cant afford 67 dollars for one script. I guess I just have to do some more experimenting. Anyways my question is has anyone noticed more frequent pain during voiding when they take Hydrocodone?

hi there,
I am sorry you aren't feeling good. Let me address the Hydrocodone issue..i also take it and was wondering the SAME thing. Sometimes I would have immediate total relief, and other times it would burn more. I just started assuming it was the medication itself.
I brought my concerns to my URO and he said NO. He said if it were the Hydrocodone, it would happen everytime i take it.....not here and there.
However, everyone is different and this is one doctors opinion. I would discuss it with the prescribing doctor and maybe you can try something different, like Percocet.
Good luck !

It takes me forever to pee if I am on hydrocodone. I will just sit there waiting. I have to run the sink for me to get going. I have never had pain from them though.

Hydrocodone has been the only pain med that I didn't have side effects with except the constipation issue, but I take Milk of Magnesia every night and that problem went away. I had a major retention problem with Ditropan, matter of fact any of the OAB meds caused retention with me. Patch or pill, I was in trouble.

I had the retention issue whether I was taking Hydrocodone or not at times until I started taking Prosed DS. Before that miracle med (I wished it worked for everyone like it does for me!!) there were plenty of days that I was running the water!

I had the same problem when I was on vicodin. I switched to norco and I seem to be doing better. I figured out that it wasn't the hydorcodone causing my problems, it was the tylenol. Norco only has 350mg of acetaminophen and xodol has even less. It was also causing major kidney pains and sciatica. Both have gotten better since I switched.

hydrocodone makes me worse too! it causes me to have very bad spasms.. I posted on it a while back. You could do a search under my username and read those responses too. I also did a "test" to prove that it was the hydrocodone that was making me worse and it was a definite positive!!!!
I too wondered this. I only take brand because generic has all kinds of fillers that are terrible for the bladder. And Vicodan is one of the oldest generics so it has a bunch of bad additives. I think the Tylenol can also bother the bladder for some people.
So, no I don't think it is the Hydrocodene part. It is the Tylenol and/or fillers in the generic pills. Unfortunately, the Hydro doesn't come without Tylenol or Asprin like oxycodene (Percocet) does.
I have taken the yellow "Norco" 10/325 for 5 years. My bladder and liver aren't bothered by it.
Hope this helps.

Hey BBB, does percocet have aspirin in it or tylenol? I just want to make sure.

I have been taking oxycodone since November and it relies the pain but not
the burning. I use pyridum (Walgreens) for the burning. I also take elmiron but it can take up to 4 months to work. Dec 3, I had the steriod instillation into the bladder and it did not work for me but seemed to make frequently worse.
My doctor put me on sanctura which really does work without side effects
of Detrol. Over the counter antihistamines also help me I take them with the
Elmiron.
Urelle didn't work for me but seemed to make the burning worse? We are different and with this disease it does become trail and error.
Currently, we are trying a short course of predisisone for 5 days for the
imflamation in the bladder. Just started today.
Just try to hang in there and try to stay as stress free as possible. Avod all foods with acid. I also take achipex to lower my body's acid level.
I've had IC with ulcers for 12 years. Had the ulcers burned off 12 years ago and that really stopped the pain. Now they are back.
Good luck to you. I feel your pain. happy holidays
