I finally got the EGD and colonoscopy done. It took 4 IV sticks before the nurse anesthetist got it on the 3rd try, then that one blew and we went on to #4. That one was a keeper. They took very good care of me and I was the first case of the day, so it all worked out fine. I was very nervous but I wasn't in as severe of withdrawl as I was the last time. I was smart and took a MSContin at midnight last night and that seemed to help me.

I now have a NEW dx of a hiatal hernia and that's whats been causing the nausea and vomiting. He said the Crohn's appears to be in remission (love that word) right now and to count my blessings.

The profocol was WONDERFUL stuff. If any of you have to have these procedures done I HIGHLY recommend it. I was out within seconds of them putting it in my IV and woke up in the recovery room.

Tom has been VERY sweet to me, taking care of me really well. He was really worried too but didn't admit it til it was all over, but I could tell.

So I'm in good hands, taking it easy today. I'm tired, mostly because I got up at 4 am, but a little woozy from the meds too. I woke up and was ready, then and there to get out of that hospital! So, the meds wear off pretty quickly.

Thanks to everyone who has supported me through this ordeal. I don't know what I would have done without you guys!

Hugs, Sandy

Sandy...I am so happy for you that the test was finally done. What a relief that must be for you. Interesting that it is a hernia that's been causing all the problems for you. Yea for remission!!!!

Now, get some rest and relax. You have earned it. :)

I'm so glad this is over for you. My Terry has a hiatal hernia! We sleep with the head of our bed elevated six inches --- very hard to get used to at first but routine now. His is controlled pretty well by simply avoiding eating after dinner in the evenings. Hope now that you know what it is you will feel better.

Warm hugs,
Donna

Oh Sandy glad to hear you were able to go through the surgery and you did well. I am so thankful to hear that it is over and you are resting. I am sorry you have another dx, but hopefully you can do things or the doctor can give you something so you won't get so sick.

Sending hugs, Trish

He did take biopsies so I guess we'll have to wait to find out what those say....still worries me a little bit. I'm thinking, and have been thinking for a while that I have Celiac disease because years ago I tested positive for it in a blood test, but positive for Crohn's by biopsy....and it's possible to have both. It would explain SO much. So we'll see.

What's ironic is my daughter has a hiatal hernia and they told me she was born with it...she spent the first 3 months of middle school throwing up and had an EGD done.

I'm doing remarkably well today too....tired, a little loopy and silly, but very well.

Again, thank you to everyone of you out there for putting up with Nurse Weenie!

Still can't believe I have ANOTHER dx!

Sandy, I'm glad it's over... I haven't been posting much, but I have been following your story, and have been hoping everything would be okay. I'm glad you know what is going on now so you can get to feeling better.

I was sedated with propofol (Diprivan) during the first stage of my InterStim surgery, and I must agree that it is excellent stuff. Quick and gentle sedation and a pretty easy wake-up as well.

Hi Sandy,
I am so glad you had the procedures done without any problems other than having to be stuck 4 times!! I wanted to ask you if you have problems swallowing your food? My husband has the hiata hernia and when he eats certain food they will get stuck especially chicken.
I am glad they found out what was causing you to be sick and I pray that you are on the road to recovery
So glad you are doing better today :hi:
Love,
Laura

Sometimes I have noticed that swallowing is difficult. I never really put that together til I just read your post. I have to chew my food really, really well to get it down comfortably. Now I know why!

Jen, thanks for the post. I've missed you on the boards lately! Quick and gentle sedation is the best summary of that medication they gave me. I don't remember anything after they said, "now we're putting in the good stuff"! I was out and woke up in the recovery room remembering nothing! It was wonderful!! Thanks for posting. I hope to see more of you around here and hope things are going great at home and at work!

I have noticed that today I feel even more tired than I did yesterday. Don't really know why but it's time for me to go take a rest. Kids will be back today and I'm ready for a nap...thank goodness they're old enough to care for themselves for the most part!

So glad this went well, is over and you know what the problem is!!! Surely hope you will now find relief and will feel soooo much better!!! My last EGD they found a small hiatal hernia. I've had quite a bit of nausea and pain in the past few months and they found a benign tumor in my liver. I was blaming that for the problems even though most people don't have symptoms from such a thing. Now, after hearing your story, I'm wondering if it is that or the hiatal hernia causing the SX....hmmm...good question to ask my gastro when I see him the beginning of Jan!

I could totally understand your dread of getting the IV started. I'm a very difficult one to hit, too. Didn't want to tell you this before your procedure, but can now. When I had my gall bladder removed 4 different nurses were called in to try and start my IV. Each one tried 6 or 7 times and all failed. Well, #4 did get it going, but, before it could be secured, another nurse bumped it and pulled it out :cussing:! Finally the anesthesiologist came in and wanted to know what the hold up was all about.......they were waiting for me in surgery and getting tired of the delay. He said, "Everyone clear out of the way and I'll get this in one stick". He grabed my hand and went
DEEP....ouch!!!!!!! Then he told the others to get me into the OR immediately and they all started running. I yelled "I love you!" to my hubby as I was pushed at warp speed out the door (they weren't about to give me a moment to say anything). The anesthesiologist was running next to the gurney and I remember him saying "Let's get this started" and it was immediately lights out for me....before I even made it to the OR!

I'll have to remember the info on propofol. My hubby is resistant to versed. A year and a half ago he was critically ill and in the hospital. Among many other tests, he had to have both a pulmonoscopy and a gastroscopy. They used versed both times and both times, while he felt relaxed, he was quite awake and aware of everything going on. During the pulmonoscopy, with the scope deep in his lung, the doctor asked the nurse to move my hubby's arm. The nurse stated he thought my hubby might be awake. Well, my hubby moved his arm by himself and gave the dr a little wave. The doctor was astounded! If hubby ever needs another procedure, I'll have to remember to ask the medical staff about using propofol!

Get lots of rest now and I hope you'll be feeling better quickly!!!!!!!
