WELL I FINALLY GOT THE CATH OUT TODAY AFTER HAVING TO GO BACK TO THE ER FOR YET ONE MORE VISIT. NOW I HAVE TO SELF CATH BECAUSE 5 DAYS AFTER THE PROCEDURE I STILL HAVE NOT BEEN ABLE TO VOID ON MY OWN. I ALSO HAVE NOT HAD A BOWEL MOVEMENT, IS THIS NORMAL- WILL I EVER GET MY LIFE BACK THE WAY IT WAS BEFORE CYSTO/HYDRO? I'M STARTING TO GET REALLY DEPRESSED AND NOT TO MENTION I THINK I HAVE TRAUMATIZED MY 14 YEAR OLD DAUGHTER HAVING TO LUG AROUNG THE BAG WHILE I HAD THE CATH IN. SHE DOESN'T UNDERSTAND, SHE THINKS I'M DYING OR SOMETHING. I'VE TRIED TO EXPLAIN IT BUT SHE STILL DOESN'T SEEM TO GET THE WHOLE CONCEPT. I DECIDED TO LET HER READ SOME OF THE OTHER THREADS THAT ARE ON THIS SIGHT SO THAT SHE CAN SEE THAT PEOPLE DO ACTUALLY LIVE NORMAL LIVES WITH TH:help:IS DISEASE. DOES ANYONE HAVE ANY SUGGESTIONS?:help:

I would say you need to mention to your dr asap that you are not having bowel movements. It might be that you're in so much pain and your bladder is causing so many problems that it has stopped your bowels. That could be causing some of your problems. I can't say if this is normal or not but I was able to pee right after my hydro and though it did hurt I could do it and continued to pee once I got home. If you have not been in contact with the dr who did the hydro I would do so asap and see what their opinion is and what they're going to do to help you get better. :grouphug:

I would definitely call your doctor about not having a BM. I had a cysto/hydro done and also had the same problem. And I never have had that problem. I had my mom call because I was too embarrassed about it. He told me that I should be taking colace or to do an enema. He said that it happens because your body is not use to having someone distend everything and your bladder is probaby so swollen that it is affecting your intestines etc. But I would say that if you haven't gone in 5 days that its VERY important to call. Mine was only 2 days and I was wayy uncomfortable. Is belly really distended? Please do call. Im sure it will happen, it has too...its nature way but to speed up the process I would call and he will probably tell you to take what i said above. but like i said im no doctor. Good luck with everything.

I have to agree with the others.. There was someone else on here that mentioned something about the same thing happening after her hydro/cysto and it caused alot of problems for her. Please contact your Dr about this..

Maybe this person will chime in and tell you her story..

Yes, I had this problem, both the urinary retention and paralyzed bowels/intestines after my hydro. Both are very real medical emergencies. I would get to your dr or the ER ASAP and get xrays of your abdominal/pelvic area...that will show if you're intestines/bowels are compromized whether from the retention, the anesthesia, pain meds, or a combo of all. Before I was readmitted to the hospital b/c of these complications, my uro had me self cathing and told me to try enemas and laxatives to no avail and so the hospitlization. Pain....off the charts...If I were you I would not settle for self cathing and no bms at this point...you need to be xrayed and on a foley cath/leg bag...self-cathing does not always get it all out. Call your uro's answering service no matter the time day or night and let him/her know that you haven't had a bm, and if your dr won't agree to admit you to the hospital right then and there then go to the ER PLEASE, get cathed, ask for the smallest cath possible...pediatric size or pediatric feeding tube is most comfortable w/ a leg bag, if you are retaining then your urethra is probably very swollen and won't tolerate well even a 12 French Cath and xrays of your abdominal and pelvic area. That's the best advice I know to offer based on what I know now and didn't know then. Keep us posted when you can! :grouphug::angel:
