I had Botox under general anesthesia, I couldn't (and wouldn't) go back to work the next day. I actually took several days off and I still don't really feel all that much better. I am still having the same frequency and a lot of pain. I have heard it takes a little while to kick in, my dr. did 35 injections... not sure of the volume of each.

I had mine on 11/29...and still waiting for something to happen.

Anke,
When you say injections, what exactly do you mean?? I thought that they put the botox into the bladder like an instill??? Did they give you the botox sorta like nerve blocks at trigger points?? Just wondering cause I have an appt. Tues. with a new doc and I definitely want to be informed before I agree to anything new:smile tee.

Hugs,
Donna

Ohhh... I'm sorry! I guess the questions I had for you above don't apply ;-)

I'll cross my fingers and pray that all goes well with you. I personally know people (2) in the city I live that got very good results with Botox. Best of luck to you!

Could anyone explain how this is supposed to work?? Is it like trigger point injections?

I had the botox injections on 10/19. They inject it like a shot but they put you to sleep while it is being done. I had my bladder, urethra, pelvic floor, and vagina injected with the botox along with the hydrodistention. It did not work for me but I have talked to another woman in the area that it did help out. Everyone is so different and what works for some does not always work for others.
I am praying  for you Shawpdx1 and I hope that you get wonderful results from your botox treatment. I agree about the not going back to work the next day. That seems soon so be prepared to maybe take a few days off.
Good Luck :)

Thanks for the info on Botox. I was recently in Calif. and had an unexpected trip to the hospital for what they thought was a stroke but thank goodness it wasn't. However, I was referred to a Uro there for my IC pain and he suggested I look into Research Testing for clinical trials as it was very expensive any other way. This wonderful Dr gave me samples and RX for Urelle. I had immediate relief the next day. I now take it 3 times a day and am pain free after 2 1/2 years. I still follow the IC diet as I'm afraid to get the pain started again. Has anyone taken Urelle? And if so were you able to add the questionable foods back? Also how did you arrive at the decision to use Botox as another option for pain. Thanks for your answers.

Judith :)

I just had my Botox done on Friday in Miami, Fl. I had it done in the doctor office and I had 150 units put in my bladder wall. I just can not believe you are having 300 units done!!! You are ready to walk out of the office when it is done and it takes only 10 min. for doctor to put the Botox injection in you. I did a 3 year study on the Botox with Dr. GOUSSE in Miami, FL and he is really very get doctor to do Botox injection on people!!!! It has been over 4 years since I have been doing the Botox injection with Dr. GOUSSE. After the study I got my insurance to pay for my Botox and I was lucky that they payed for it. The Botox is working for my urgency&Freuqency. Good luck doing your Botox!!!!

Does botox do anything for pain or only freq/urge? How are you feeling now?

for me, its relieved most all symptoms, I went from 50 to 100 times a day to 8 times a day. I had severe cysto for over 6 years the pain now is nil to none. The only trade off is having to self catheterize myself, can't go on my own but for me its a good trade off. that creates some pain but I take vicodine for pain. at some point Im hoping to get off the pills completly.
I would do it again in a minute!! my life now is amazing I dont live in the bathroom anymore etc. good luck

So I am getting mixed messages out of these threads. They inject Botox apparently, not instill it. however, are you under general anethesia or awake? Not everyone has pain, but for the ones that do.....is the pain related to the injection or your normal IC pain flare?

My doctor wants to do this, but I am trying to get more information.

Thanks.

Its NOT PAINFUL . the only pain you may have would be the catheter being put in but thats not bad either. Hoever I had one in for over a year because of my IC the needle is so small you dont feel it!! this is my experence, I will and would do it agian in a nano second and they gave me a max dose. My life is so much different. Its not perfect but its like night and day Im able to go 4 hours with our thinking about urinating I was scared to!!! but I had no choice it was either thry it or live my life with a catheter in NO THANKS Id say do it!!
