Hello everyone
I'm new on here and I was just hoping to get a bit of advice please?
I've been having a terrible time with my back for some reason and yesterday could barely move. I went to the Dr and he was horrible but eventually told me to do a urine dipstick to make sure he didn't 'look silly' if there was something showing!!
Anyway it came out with protein off the chart of the dipstick and the nurses called in a different Dr to look at it and they all seemed quite concerned. Told me to go back today to discuss it with another Dr. They did another dipstick and the protein had reduced a lot and was only a little raised. My sister went with me and whilst I was doing the urine test she asked if it could be related to the IC. The Dr said yes and that if it weren't for the IC they would do a fair bit of testing to see what going on.
I'm afraid I'm very mis-trustful of Drs now and just wondered if this is correct and that high protein in urine is a symptom of IC?
I feel so terrible and having bad back pain, pelvic pain and frequency and just don't won't to miss something!
Mercia xx:)

I really think that high protein is NOT a result of IC!

From what I have read, high protein indicates a kidney problem (which may explain your back pain too!)

Please see another doctor soon or maybe even visit an ER. I know it is not good to let possible kidney problems go untreated.

Hope you get better soon!

I never heard that about the protein either. I do know that it can be a sign of Lupus because my sister has it. She said they test by about 13 different signs. She had 9 of them and got a quick diangosis.
I hope that there isn't something else going on with you! It would be sooo hard to have another condition on top of this. I couldn't imagine. Many people here do though. Are there any more symptoms you've been having besides the back pain? other join pain?

Um... protein in the urine is more of a problem with kidney function and NOT bladder. Now, if you have an obstruction or "reflux" from the bladder back into the kidney, it can cause kidney trouble. If you had flank pain with that urine protein, ask to get a referral to a nephrologist. I would do that if I were in your shoes!
