I Had A Cysto/hydro Done Yesterday And Couldn't Void. I Had The Procedure Done At 7:30 In The Morning And By 8:00 Last Night Still Hadn't Been Able To Use The Restroom. I Was Told By My Doc To Go To The Er & Have A Cath Put In. Is It Normal To Be Unable To Void After Having This Done. I'm Getting Scared. Now I Have This Bag Hanging From Me. I Had The Procedure Done To Stop Pain And Now I'm In More Pain Because My Bladder Was So Full From Not Voiding That I'm In Worst Pain Than Before, Bladder Hurts And Now Have A Cath That Is Killing Me!!! Can Anyone Help!!!!

I'm sorry you're having so much pain and unable to void. I personally did not have this problem after my hydro/cysto but I have heard of others having the problem. I would call your uro today and find out how long he thinks you are going to need the cath in for. I would also ask if there is a smaller cath they can use instead of the one the ER used so you will be more comfortable. I did have a bladder surgery before the IC and I had to keep a foley in for almost a week. I remember how uncomfortable it was the whole time and I couldn't sit up with any comfort at all so I was in bed most of that time just to be comfortable. I hope you start to feel better soon. Did your uro give you pain meds for post op? If not I would call and ask for those as well. :grouphug:

i had the same problem when i had mine done,i still couldn't go the next morning so my doc had me come right in ,she cathed me and said i should be able to start going now,but if not then she would have me admitted .i didn't want a bag yet so i thought i would go home first and wait it out.by later that day i was able to go by myself again.i personally will never get another hydro again,it made me way worse for the next 6 months,i am starting now to get a little better with help from some new meds.i do know though that the hydro has also helped alot of people too, icndonna is helped tremendously.we are all different.jamie

i had mine last thursday and i had problems peeing most of that day and part of the next. even when i finally peed it felt like i was holding it. Donna told me to drink lots of water(as hard as that is when you feel like you can't pee) and to not strain when trying. Great advice. It took a few days but it got better. i did not expect the procedure to help with any symptomys. i had it done for the dx. it did not help at all for pain or urgency. keep us updated as you are in our prayers. i hope you feel better very soon.

Your doctor was absolutely on target to send you to the ER. I had the same problems for two days after my hydro and went back to my uro's two times before she finally had admitted to the hospital and cathed. By that time things were REALLY bad. My inestines had also become paralyzed by then from the pressure of the retention on my intestines and the pain was a 100 on a scale of 1-10. I ended up being in the hospital for 7 days...please make sure that you are having bowel movements...if not, then you may need further treatment. Laxatives and enemas were recommended to me by my uro before I was admitted, but did not work for me. Urinary retention and paralyzed bowels are very real medical emergencies and need to be treated as such. Even after the hospital stay I went home with a leg bag and foley cath...for which I was VERY grateful...I think I had to wear it for about a week or two after being discharged, but it was a small price to avoid going into retention again. Because I had complications I had obviously a longer than normal recovery time, and now permanent damage was done, thank GOD, and I eventually got back to my pre-hydro symptoms, minus the sharp stabbing pains that I used to get before the hydro....hunner's ulcers were found and burned off...that's the only thing I can think of that relieved those sharp stabbing pains. Unfortunately I still have pain of other sorts, back pain, frequency, etc..all the same that I had before the hydro but pretty well controlled now that I have a dx and treatment plan and pain meds. I am so sorry you have had to go through this...no one can understand better than me how scary and painful it is. I hope your dr has you on pyridium, antibiotics, and some pain med...also an Rx for lidocaine gel can help immensely with the irritation that the cath can cause. Please feel free to pm me if you want to talk more about this privately, or just post on the board and I will check for your posts. :grouphug:

I had the same problem after my first hydro and ended up back in the hospital overnight. After that I was fine.

I had the exact same problem and had to wear a Foley for a week. It was so uncomfortable and awful. I feel for you!!

Try to rest and get better. I found the more I moved around with the Foley the more pain I was in.

Hugs and Prayers,

I hope by now you are able to urniate on your own. I did not have this problem when I had either one of my Cysto. But your doctor did the right thing by having you go to ER right away. Like other mentioned before me there have been some that have had this problem and some that I know of that went home from surgery with the cath still in.

Make sure you watch out for a bladder infection. Especially since they had to cath you again. I am sure you are on antibotics just keep a watchful eye out.

:pray:that you start feeling better soon

I hope you are fine now. I have had the problem once since I starting having hydros. I had to go to the doctors and get cath. I had to go back and forth to the doctor for a couple of days. After that I was fine. Since then, haven't had any problems with them.

WELL I WENT BACK TO MY URO TODAY AND HE REMOVED THE CATH. I STILL COULDN'T GO ON MY OWN SO NOW I HAVE TO CATH AT HOME TO VOID. I FEEL AWFUL, I THOUGHT THIS WOULD HELP ME. I HAD MY 1ST ONE DONE A YEAR AGO AND GOT A REALLY GOOD REACTION, WENT INTO REMISSION FOR ABOUT 10 MONTHS. I DONT UNDERSTAND WHAT WENT WRONG THIS TIME. THANKS FOR YOUR CONCERN AND PLEASE CONTINUE TO PRAY FOR ME.:cussing:

I'm so sorry you are going threw this. I've had it to happen to me a few times too after a hydro/cysto. I was told try sitting in a warm tub of water if then I couldn't go. Go to the ER. I had caths at home at the time so I tried that. At first the cath wouldn't' go in due to all the swelling, but after sitting in the tub for a while the swelling I guess went down enough for the cath to go in and then I was able to let it go. After that I didn't have any more problems.
I've had this to happen more than once I know how upsetting this can be.
If you haven't already try sitting in a tub of water to see if that will get it going.

Best wishes
Rhonda

You are in my prayers. Are you doing the intermittent cathing instead of having a foley in constantly? I had a friend who just had the hydro done a few weeks back and she went home with a cath in, but she insisted they use a pediatric size catheter which was way more comfortable than the standard, that is what she said. I will pray that you get better soon.

I am sorry you are going through this. I had a hydrodistention and I remember it really hurting the first few times I went to the bathroom. It felt like peeing razor blades or broken glass but I did not have the problem of retention. I think you have gotten some good suggestions from everyone. I am really, really sorry you are hurting. I will keep you in my prayers and I pray the doctor can help you out.:pray::pray:
