I have found if I eat more than 300 mgs of sodium at one time my bladder flares. I was just wondering if this is normal.

Sodium is a big trigger for me. I have but out adding any additional salt to foods when I am cooking and I watch salt content in other things that I eat. Yesterday I had some plain lays potato chips - I am still in a lot of pain and I know it was the salt.

Sea salt really bothers me but regular salt in moderation is fine. I don't add much of it to food and in most recipes cut it down just a bit.

Too much sodium can cause fluid retention and other unpleasant things. I have to keep an eye on it because of blood pressure. I had too much for dinner last night and my fingers are "fat" this morning from fluid --- so I will have to drink extra water and eat very little salt today.

I pretty much desalted myself years ago. It took some getting used to it but now it is normal for me. I also use less salt cooking and baking than what the recipe calls for. I can really taste it when there is too much salt in foods.

Salt doesn't bother me, but I don't use alot of it anyway. Staying away from pre-packaged foods makes a difference all around and those are always full of sodium as well as other preservatives.

I usually watch my salt intake as my ankles swell anyways, but the other night we had a Mended Hearts meeting (its a support group where people go and support one another who has had heart surgery/problems, etc). Anyway, the chef fixed a ham to die for (very tender that you could cut it with a plastic knife and melted in your mouth!!). I had a half of a slice- needed less to say my ankles were very puffy for the last 2 days and even had a temporary weight gain due to all of the salt. ( plus I have noticed that my bladder is acting up--was beginning to wonder if I was flaring or an infection. Now I probably know its a flare.
