My first appt. with the ic specialist is 12/7. Would I sound crazy if i called and asked them if they deal with pain management, as in pain medication. Would that be starting myself off on the wrong foot? I would hate to drive 1 hour to this dr and he not be willing to treat my pain. I have current uro for that.

That is one of the first questions I asked when I had to change doctors groups. They knew I was one of Dr. Ragi's patients, and that explained that she had given some refills on my pain meds, but I was running out, so I wanted to make sure they could treat my pain, which they could. They also do not have pain management clinics where I live, which I find strange since I don't live far from a large city in TN! But as long as my doctor gives me the meds to treat my systoms, I am happy.

I guess it depends on the uro... some dr's dont know alot about IC or the extent of pain we go through. Like my old uro gave me elavil and that's it. No pain meds or anything. She didnt believe me that i was dying of pain. So Idk if it'd be a good idea to ask for pain meds right off the bat, unless they know your case. I hope you get some relief soon!!

It can be difficult, but if your urologist is unwilling to prescribe pain meds, look into a pain management clinic. These people are experts in dealing specifically with pain, and a lot of us have had good success with them.
