I have been cathing myself for about 3 months due to complications of botox. I recently have been having a lot of pain & spasms in my bladder. They feel the botox is starting to wear off. Last night I went to cath and blood gushed from my bladder then urine (mixed with blood) then more blood. this happened 4 times in a row then the cathing cleared up no more visible blood. Has this happened to anyone? please help!

Yea, that's pretty scarey and def is not normal. I would call the dr and get their answering service to get in touch with them and have them call you. I would stress how much blood there was and how this has never happened before. Heck if that would have happened to me, I might not have even called the dr, I would gone straight for the ER, but that's just me.

Call the doctor & if he doesn't respond in 2 hours, go to the ER. That's scary.

I still have not heard from my doctor. He has not responded to my e-mail. The ER where I would go is at the same place that I work. They really wouldn't know what to do. I have been sore all day and really haven't felt too good. When I get to work tomorrow I will talk with my PCP who I also e-mailed (I cc'd her when I e-mailed my Uro/gyno) but she hasn't read it yet. I used my work e-mail and we have the same e-mail as my uro/gyno I can tell when they read it.
I am sure he would of written me back if it was an emergency he is very good about that. My urine has been clean since 6am so I am not sure what happened. I can't imagined I injured myself I think I would have felt that. It didn't hurt at all when I slid in the catheter it was just like the other times. But the blood that just gushed out shocked me. I yelled to my husband and his first reaction was WOW! but then he said oh you probably poked yourself. I think I would of felt it if I poked myself.
We will see tomorrow.

Yikes, how scary....hope you get into the dr tomorrow to test for a UTI...I'm sure you already know the self-cathing puts you at risk for developing a UTI. I have had blood in urine only one time, when I was in the dx process for IC, at the beginning of my second 5 month long flare. It was very scary and I did feel like I had UTI symptoms, but the test and culture came back neg for infection...though I had high white blood cell count there weren't any nitrates found. Still, I was put on a week of Cipro, the symptoms subsided while on the antibiotic, but as soon as I finished with the Cipro, the symptoms all came back with a band, minus the blood) and have continued ever since. Strange disease IC is...I pray this is nothing serious for you, hopefully "just" a UTI that can be treated w/ an antibiotic. I am so sorry for your complications with the botox...we try what we can to get relief, but it is so sad that we can never predict the outcome or side effects from any treatment or med. Keep us posted....Best wishes :)

This is what the doctor said
They said I likely disrupted a small urethral vessel and like a
nosebleed you had bleeding. They've looked in my bladder enough to not
expect a tumor. I don't need to stop cathing no more than you would stop
blowing your nose if you had a nose bleed.

Glad to hear your dr doesn't think it's anything serious. That would have scared the daylights out of me.

Actually I find it hard to believe. there was alot of blood. When I had to cath in the past I had a small amount of blood irritation blood. But nothing like this.
I talked to my doctor more today. We are going to do Botox one more time. To get me out of this pain. I had it 3 months ago and they think it is wearing off and that is why I am in so much pain. We will do it again and see if it will carry me over giving my new meds more time to work. Then see what happens. If it doesn't work they want to send me to a different doctor someone who specializes in IC. Problem is I live in NH and there is nobody around here. Does anyone have any suggestions. He would like me to see Dr. Whitmore. He e-mailed her but she has not answered. I don't think I would ever be able to get in with her after reading many the post on this site. she is hard to get into. I am sure one of her doctors would be just as good from what you all say. but I live way to far away and can't aford to fly down there.
