My youngest couldn't have any milk products when he was small. I found that I could substitute water for milk in nearly all recipes.

I did not know you were dairy free also. Is it an allergy or the lactose? For me it is an allergy, but the only allergic responce to dairy is bladder related, urgency. So dairy causes me to flare. It is actually really hard to stay away from dairy but getting easier.
If it is an allergy, how bad is it? I tested a 1 out of 4, 4 being the most allergic to it. My allergist (works with my uro) told me that if a person stays away from an allergen for a year sometimes the allergy goes away. Gives me a little hope.
Ok for recipies, well actually I am not much of a cook. I have found that a lot of the stuff that calls for milk taste pretty good with water substituted. I know that sounds sick but it really has been fine. Like I like the Martha White corn bread. It calls for one egg and 1/2 cup of milk. It taste just the same. Now, I do coat the pan in oil because I am staying away from the sprays. I also make pancakes with water instead of milk. Now that tastes a little different. It just has less tast to it not bad. For Thanksgiving my mother made me a homemade angel food cake. It was great and does not require dairy.
You could try goat milk maybe. They also have non dairy creamers. Let me know if you find a good one that works. I have recently cheated a little. Pizza is a food I seem to miss a lot. So when I was at a lunch earliy last week, I made sure to add cheese sticks to the order. I then took denadryl and prelief and ate one. It was great.
So what things that you normally have for Christmass that have dairy in them? maybe then we can come up with substitutes.

I don't have a problem with diary personally but I'm sure you can find a website with some recipes.
Actually I just typed in diary free baking recipes in google and found this website.

I'm sure you'll have to weed out the ones that have other unfriendly IC foods in them but hopefully you can find some that work for you.
It must really suck to be so restricted around the holidays. I remember last Xmas at work. We do the tweleve says of Xmas and people bring in food for everybody to eat for 12 days. It was so depressing the amount of things I couldn't eat or was afraid to try. This year my coworkers are making some dips for our day and I'm just responsible for the crackers since I barely have the engery to make it through the work week, lol.
I hope that website helps :smile tee

You are always so helpful. I know when I read one of you post it will always be very supportive and caring and you always try to help. Thank you for that. It is nice to have someone who is always there for others even when suffering .

I'm also dairy free (and so is most of my family). We substitute rice milk for milk in many recipes with no problem. You could probably substitue almond milk or soy if you can tolerate it). We also use Fleishman's unsalted margarine (has to be the unsalted or it contains milk) for butter and shortening. Works great! PM me if you're looking for any recipe in particular. The only thing dairy allergy holds us back from is eating out. At home we can make just about anything dairy free.

Somehow I missed what you posted after me Heather until today. That is so nice of you to say. I know what a hard time Tracy is having with all of her multiple health problems so I thought I would give her a head start for finding some diary free baked goods.
I try to really support everybody here when I feel horrible because I know everbody does the same for me when I need it.

I did not know you were very sick. I hope you feel better soon.
I hope you are feeling better!
I am also dairy free, and with the IC diet, and I have other allergies, plus I must follow a low saliycylate diet - it does get hard sometimes to find something to eat!
What I generally do is what others are saying -substitute. You can use rice milk, or soy milk if you can tolerat it (I can't). I have done the water thing also. And then I make recipes that don't call for dairy, such as a very old roll recipe I got from my mother-in-law that uses Crisco instead of butter. (yeah, bad for you, I know but I only make it for the holidays!)
Good luck!
