This may sound like a silly or obvious question but...
Reading through the posts I noticed a great majority if ICers have this problem. And my question is, is it possible to have IC and never have pain during/after sex?
So far I have been pain free with that particular activity and was wondering if it was just luck or if I may never have a problem with it.
Thanks.

I have pain with intercourse ... but not so much that it has made me stop! LOL!!
We just go slow
Like a lot of things with this it does seem to vary from person to person from my reading.

I can have sex without pain if we're in the "right" position. This is usually a motified spooning position for us. My dr thinks I am having sex with pain though and I've just been dealing with it for so long during sex that I don't even realize it anymore because it's less than it coule be. My real problem is afterwards. After sex if I have had an orgasam then that's when the pain starts. Hubby says I'm in more pain for three days afterwards. Not sure if that's exactly true but it def hurts afterwards but nothing that some pain pills don't help.
But if you're not having pain, I wouldn't question it, I would just be happy it is pain free.

I also used to be pain free until recently! But I think I've had untreated IC for about 4 years (was treated for chronic uti's instead). Just recently I've been getting treatment and feeling better, so hopefully sex will get better soon too! :smile tee

I was pain free after sex for many years. Even when I was flaring alot, sex normally made me feel better! I still don't have pain during, just normally hits the next day to fairly high on the pain scale even if we take it slow. I now use B&O supp almost every time and have been doing much better.

I used to just have pain after, but that was the ic causing it for me.. now since I have pfd.. I have pain during as well :(

I doubted for awhile that I had IC because I never had "painful" sex, I just felt the next day like I'd had, um, "vigourous" sex, lol. This was before IC dx, so I just thought that that's why I felt that way - never associated it with IC...lol. So, yep, once I got my IC under control (not the constant flare I was in at the time of dx) things went right back to normal, minus the day after irritation, lol. ;)

I've never had problems with sex, thankfully. However, I will not have sex if I'm flaring, so I don't know if sex will make my flares worse. I pee after sex and try to make sure my partner and I are both clean (meaning having taken a shower recently) when we get intimate.
Try not to worry too much about it--just enjoy it! :)

I have no pain with sex and I'm a really bad case. I think my most involved areas are on the dome of the bladder and not so much lower down although I have a lot of urethral involvement but for whatever sex actually makes me better. But with no estrogen and being in pain, who feels sexy......

Hi, my physical therapist said the PFD causes most of the pain, if thats under control as well as the IC, you will have less or no pain. :)

Moose, I actually recently posted under the "managing flares" section of the forum the following question: what's your post sex ritual? I got a lot of very good tips!
