Just diagnosed with IC-Questions

Hi,

I was just diagnosed with IC 2 weeks ago. My doctor put me on Elmiron 100mg 3 times a day. It hasn't helped yet and I understand it might take 6-12 months before it works for me. I don't have pain all the time. Sometimes I have pain the last few seconds of urinating but it's just an uncomfortable feeling, not really painful. Some days I don't have pain at all. Then there have been a couple of days where I have pain all day and then when I urinate it feels like someone is stabbing me with a knife. Somedays I have pain on and off. Sometimes when I cough my bladder hurts.

Is anyone else spuratic in their pain like I am? Do some of you, when you cough, it hurts? Thanks for listening.

One thing you didn't mention is diet. Are you following an IC diet? If not, I suggest you begin immediately. You'll find diet info in the Patient Handbook (link at the top of this page).

Welcome! You can learn a lot here and get a lot of good ideas about how to alleviate your symptoms. The Patient Handbook is a good place to start.

Hi, diet is very important so you will know what foods can be causing you pain, for instance, if I drink juice, I will have pain, I can be ok all day then eat something and then here comes the pain. I would look at the IC handbook as it has helped me to learn alot.
