I am having my 4th hydro/cysto on Wed. and know the pain I will be in afterwards and want suggestions for pain meds to ask the doctor for. I have a few lortab, but I know from the experience those did not cut the pain afterwards and my insurance will not pay for Prosed DS, so I will also need to ask her for something like that, that comes in generic. ANY SUGGESTIONS WOULD BE GREAT. I know her and if I go in there informed, she does not look at me as a drug seeker, but as an informed patient, plus I will only ask for a small amount just to get me over the 4 to 5 days that it takes me to feel better. Plus I really only Wed., and Thurs with no responsibilities, then Friday, I will have my son back, and Sat. is a full day, he is having a winter carnival at school in the am and then a basketball game in the afternoon. Of course I can miss his game, but would hate to.
So any suggestions would be great, is Percocet better than Lortab, so on. Thanks for all that respond.

Well im not going to lie, this procedure was very painful for me atleast. I was given several morphine shots afterwards. And later went home with 7.5mg Loritab which barely took away the pain, but this could be because of the infection i developed. I know toradol does absoloutely nothing for me either, but I can't take percocet because its too strong. You have to really find a happy medium as my mom tells me, who has Lupus. I think its a combination of resting and taking the pain med before the other wears off. I was a huge ANTI PILL person before, but now I have to take it or else my 23 year old self would be in tears doubled over in pain. I would say that a combination of a pain med and antispasmaodic worked best for me...I guess it just really depends on the person. Just make sure you take it easy and drink plenty of fluids...another one of my mistakes... I hope it goes well and you have a smooth recovery;)

Doctor gave me Percocet, enough for a week. They were strong, but all I did was lay around and they really helped the pain. Most stronger pills have a split down the middle so you can break them in half for a lower dose.I also got Pyridium. Grateful for both.

Ultram didn't touch my pain. Percoset just made me too jumpy. I kind of like the loopy feeling at times, but it caused me to not get any sleep. I was on Morphine and the 2nd hydro, I also had B&O supp and still my pain was tremendous. It finally decreased after a few weeks and Lortabs were sufficient, but I was looking forward to that 4th hour for my next dose!!!!

My doctore gave me nothing after wards...and this stinks.I had some vicatin left so I used them but they just keep me from going over the deep end. Tell you doctor to be honest with you about what he will be giving you afterwords and if you are unsure put some pressure on him to give you at 1sub with 0 refills. He might go for that. My pain is not so bad if I stay in bed or sit some where comfortably. I over did it trying to go grocerie shopping Friday, after my cycto of Thursday.

I was given 5/500 vicoden after my hydro. There were times I had to take 2 to handle the pain but it's fine to take those that way. It worked pretty well for me and though I've gone up to the next step of vicoden I still take it for daily pain control. I know prydium 200mg as a generic as I have it now. I know it doesn't have an anti-spasm med in it but maybe they could prescribe a generic anti-spasm med speraterly if that's a problem for you. Good luck.

Why does he want to do it with you being awake? I don't think he can get the best results with stretching your bladder while you are awake. I would definitely be saying NO! Putting you through the pain of that is just so unnecessary and too traumatic!

I just had this surgery this pass Thursday. I must have the surgery done every six months due to my Hunners. However this time we had to do it even sooner because of a cat-scan report that came back showing where I had gas entrapped in the bladder. He wanted to do another test while I was under to check to see why this was? He did some type of test where he ran dye up into the kidneys and bladder where he could see where the problem was coming from. Come to find out I had a dip in my bladder where a pocket had formed. plus my left double kidney (I was born with three kidneys) isn't draining correctly, but the confusing part is their isn't a reason for it not to be draining correctly. On the bright side of things my IC and hunners are looking a lot better.
Perocets is the next step above Lortab. If it where me I would ask for the Perocet that has the /325 instead of the /500. This means lesser tylenol. The lesser the tylenol the better on the liver.
The off brand name for Prosed/Ds is Urised. I have them at home for back up as needed. If your ins. will not pay for those you might want to look into either Pyridium or pyridium plus. I've never taken the pyridium plus, but have read other threads from patient saying they have had luck with those.
I wish you lots of luck with your up coming surgery, and a quick recovery period.
Best wishes.

My doctor gave me dilaudid (I don't think I spelled it correctly). I don't feel like it did anything! I had a terrible reaction when I woke up - had that horrible over the top urgency. I sat on a toilet for at least 1/2 hour and they practically had to drag me off of it! They finally did a B&O suppository that brought the urge back to a more manageable level so my husband could drive me home. Just try to stay off your feet and if you are lucky enough let your doctor give you some good strong meds! I wish I could have gotten something that worked - that former doctor was one of those who don't prescribe narcotics. Keep and ice pack handy and or a heating pad. I was on the generic version of urelle - called Urimar-T (it goes by several different names). You may want to look into strong anti-spasmodic meds. They may help more than the pain killers! Good luck
