I had some severe complications after my hydro,a week's hospital stay, a very long recovery time, but no permanent damage done. Was I mad, hell yeah! But I am ever so grateful that no permenant damage was done, though i do have suspicions that my uro :evilsmilemay have made a mistake or two, but I don't see her anymore and I try not to dwell on it, since it was 3 yrs ago, almost to the day. But I will share my experience in case it may be of help to you and get you the medical care that you MUST have, if necessary.

I am thin, 5'6" about 120-125 lbs, but after my hydro that first night I started retaining urine, and I was terribly thirsty from the general anesthesia, so I was drinking a lot of water as recommended...unfortunately the water was going in but not coming out in the same amount and my size 4 belly swelled up like I was 7 or 8 months pregnant and sorry if TMI but my pubic area was swelled up like grapefruit.

Urinary retention is a MEDICAL EMERGECNCY, extremely painful. After two post op visits to my uro :help:she finally admitted me to the hospital. The urinary retention put pressure on my intestines/bowels and they became paralyzed (even more pain....like on scale of 1-10, a 100), and after many days of multiple oral laxatives and enemas, they finally shoved an NG tube down my nose into my stomach to pump my stomach to relieve the my intestines so that they eventually started working again. I also was on a foley bag with pediatric catheter at the time, as I was so swelled up that I could not tolerate anything larger than a pediatrc cath.

Anyway, I am not posting this to scare you, but for your own benefit in case this is what is going on with you....if the output of your fluid intake is not comparable to your intake, and your belly is swollen, if you are in severe pain, if you have not had a bowel movement, then you need to get yourself to either your uro or the ER ASAP (the ER can contact your dr or you can by calling the answering service and they WILL relay your message and your uro WILL call you back, no matter the time of day or night). If these are your symptoms, best if you can reach your uro and get admitted to the hospital immediately....if that doesn't happen in a timely manner then you need to go to ER, tell them your symptoms and about your recent surgery and your pain, urinary retention and lack of bowel movements, if that is what is going on. They should immediately put you on a foley cath...ask for one no larger than 12 French, preferably smaller, and DO NOT let them deny you treatment.

Again, I am not posting this to scare you but what happnened to me was VERY scary and very traumatizing. I would hate for the same to happen to you. Please keep us posted! :grouphug:
