Hi can anyone answer this question? Does it take up to three weeks for a heparin install to start being effective. I'm talking about just one.

Thanks

I am pretty sure you have to have several instills for them to be effective and for you to have any promising results from them.

Interesting that you ask that! I just did a poll at my doctor's office about that and got several different results. One younger person said she had relief after the first one and she's doing great, another said she needed 4-5 before she felt any relief, another said she gets a few hours relief right away, but then pain comes back, and my pain went away after the first one, but then came back a week later (I'm doing a series right now for the next 6 weeks per my doctor's advice). This is my theory and opinion only, but I think if it didn't work the first time, you need to have several more to see any results. (My doctor told me this part -- Since it just stays in until you pee it out, it's only working while it's in your bladder, however if you feel better, the results might last for awhile.) :smile tee

Currently the heperain instills that I am doing at home only make me feel better while they are in and a little while after that. My dr wants me to do 2 a week for awhile in hopes that it will start to calm things down long term.

For me it took 8 months (done once a week) and that was in 2001. I have been having it done once a week since. At first it helped for 2 days. then 3 days and now it is a hit and miss beyond 3 days. I do know I would not give it up for a million dollars. Good luck with it.
Are you asking if it takes the 3 weeks before the one instill is noticed on helping? I don't think it should but then I could be wrong. Seems it would be a sudden thing of helping once it did start helping. I knew right away.

Hi,

Thanks for the reply. In answer to waterflow's question. He said give it up to three weeks to see if it works. I'm assuming that means the one instill because he said if it doesn't work come back in to see me.

I would only get relief (while holding the instillation) when I had them done 1x per week in my doctor's office - now that I do them at home 3x's per week - I normally have relief for at least that entire day (and sometimes the day after).

I got relief right away, I had spasms so bad and after my first one I noticed improvement, but the more I got the better I started to feel.

After the first one I usually feel worse for a few days but usually after 2 or 3 I feel a lot better. It has given me a few months of remission in the past so i'm going to try maintenance treatments now to keep things under control.
