Hi everyone,

Well I went to the other doctor today. He was extremely busy. Anyway he asked me some questions. Said it sounded like IC and then ran the list of treatment options.

I told him I would like to try a instill. He instilled Heparin and sodium bicarb. Told me to give it two to three weeks and if I had no improvement to come back to see him.

I'm a bit confused because I thought that the rescue instillations were for pain control and needed to be done more then once in three weeks. It sounded to me like it was suppose to "cure me".

Also it might my pain worse. I'm wondering if anyone has had experience with these combo of meds and if it takes awhile for it to work.

He said if it didn't work that he wanted to look inside to see how bad my bladder was by doing a hydrodistention under general anesthesia.

Any feed back would be appreciated.

Thanks

I think you really need to get an actual diagnosis of IC so that you know where to start from. Even though I was scared, I wanted to know what was causing my symptoms, so after the hydro/cysto, I was so relieved to know what I had even though I knew that it was just the beginning of the rollercoaster.

Hugs,
Tracey

Hi,

Thanks for the reply. I was diagnosed 22 years ago with a cystocopy/hydrodistention. My syptoms have been mostly urgency/pressure up until about 6 months ago. Now I have moderate to severe pain.

I want the uro to do another one to see how bad my bladder looks at this time. He wants to wait to see if the instill work before he does another hydro.

The first instill caused me more pain then any kind of relief. I understand that it could take more then one instill to get some relief but I'm not sure why the doctor would say to wait three weeks to see if the first one helps.

If IC is not curable then I'm pretty sure my original diagnosis is still correct.

Have you been on any meds for IC? Are you following the IC diet? My instills do not hurt me, but I get heparin, sodium bicarb and lidocaine, now I think some do have pain with instills. As for your pain, I had increasing pain over the years due to pelvic muscle spasms, I never had treatment for that and it progressively got worse, so my pain was getting more severe. You may want to mention to your doctor you want further testing now and that you had pain with the instill and I have never heard of an instill being done once for IC. Good luck

Hi,

Thanks for your reply. In answer to your question I'm taking Elmiron and Atarax and following the IC diet.

I am going to ask that my doctor look inside my bladder to see how things are going.

Thanks again.
