Hi there,
Was just wondering if anyone else experiences discharge during bladder pain flares? This has happened a number of times with me when my pain has been particularly severe. Have had samples sent off to pathology but have always come back clear. My body seems to act like there is an infection even if one isn't there (or can't be detected). The discharge is yellow and can be quite a lot (but only when pain is really nasty). Have mentioned to doctor and had tests but nothing ever comes out of it.
I'm in one of those flares right now so i guess it's just is on my mind and wondering if anyone has any clues or knowledge about this. It so feels like something is really wrong and yet they seem like kind of phantom symptoms as they don't show anything in tests.

Have you been to a GYN lately? This is something that a GYN might need to look at. This might not have anything to do with your IC.
I know when it is time for my period which I don't have because I am on continious birthcontrol I always have a discharge and my IC always seems to be worse around that time of month. I think it has something to do with my hormones. But I really think this is something that you need to have checked out.

I get that....if I'm in an especially bad flare and my vaginal area is really irritated. This past summer I went to the gyn because I was sure I had yeast, he actually found a tad bit and treated it, but also said that any irritation can cause and increase in discharge. Fun, huh?

I agree with Ronda; if you haven't seen your gyn, you absolutely need to.

Thanks everyone,
Yes i have been to a gyn which i forgot to mention. She did tests, took samples and even eventually did investigative surgery (laprascopy and hysteroscopy) which were all shown to be normal (apart from an adhesion they separated between my bowel and left pelvic side wall - but this does not seem connected to bladder pain). I've also had ultrasounds and a cystoscopy which have been normal. The gyn put me on strong antibiotics when i first saw her too (3 at once) in case of an infection but with only a mild improvement for a short time and didn't seem to make much difference.
I'm seeing my doctor again soon so might mention it again. It does seem that with conditions like IC/Painful Bladder there can be a lack of evidence to explain what's going on. Sometimes it almost seems like an allergy where the body is overreacting to something. Early on with the bladder pain (Feb 2005) the doctor i went to at the time suggested an antifungal pessary (Cannestan) for thrush thinking this might have been part of the problem. As far as i was aware i hadn't had thrush before but was willing to try if it might help symptoms. After the treatment my pain levels got worse and were extreme by about 2 days after. I sometimes wonder if i had an allergic reaction to that treatment which also made bladder symptoms worse and has contributed to the chronic nature of bladder problems.
Anyway, thanks so much for all the help and support on this site. I find it especially helpful when going through flares when i feel more alone and vulnerable.
