I have severe urgency and frequency, and am wondering if it is worth while to get a urodynamics test. Will this tell me what is causing my symptoms? It seems it would be easier to treat if i new? Ive been trying many different things, questioning if its even needed. I pee and many times i feel the urge 15 min later. I go at least every hour, if not 3x in an hour.

My suggestion is to read Dr. Ragi Doggweiller's info on the ICA site. She gives alot of insight to what the urodynamics test does. She is who did mine and it definitely showed me where I had my issues especially when my symptoms were at their worst. I learned if I hold my urine for any length of time, it made my spasms worse and harder for me to completely empty. I will try to post her question/answer info tomorrow.

That is one times I went into without knowing anything, so all the tubes, etc were mind boggling, but she was really sweet and explained what was going on.

The urodynamics study gave me a ton of information in terms of how my bladder's dysfunction works. I only have urgency frequency. I posted about my urodynamics study on the forum (testing section). It showed when my bladder signaled to my brain the need to void (at 50cc's), when the pelvic muscles contracted to "hold tight" (at 50cc's), and then at 100cc's was when I couldn't hold it any longer and began to leak. They told me to empty and everything worked perfectly then, but after my bladder was empty, there was a massive peak in the bladder pressure and it stayed contracted like a charlie horse. It was so large that it was 'off the chart'. So, that really helped my urologist know what is going on and why my symptoms are so bad. Very little urine causes the problem and the spasm after is terrible. That is why I never feel relief after I void. I always have that feeling that I have to pee and it never stops. The urodynamics study REALLY HELPED!!!

I'm really glad I had mine done - I also had my cystoscopy & hydrodistention done that day too...
It showed the doctors everything they needed to know to diagnose me properly and customize treatments better for my situation...

it wasn't painful for me, but it was odd and a bit uncomfortable (mild pressure, etc.) but I also had a very good technician performing my urodynamic study who was kind and explained everything prior to going ahead...
