:shake: As if things weren't bad enough just dealing with symptoms of IC during the holidays, I had an accident in my home Thanksgiving evening..fell down a couple of stairs and broke my right ankle. Of course I have done no Christmas shopping or decorating and now probably won't since I can't walk. They sent me home from the ER with crutches, but I'm not doing to well with them. Guess I am out of shape, over weight and too old and also my left leg is the weaker leg and this is asking a lot of it. I would appreciate your prayers, because surgery has been mentioned. The ER dr said it is common with ankle breaks. All of this could cause me to flare since stress is one of my main causes of IC. Also, it is hard to go to the bathroom a lot since I can't walk. Just wanted to share this with someone. Thanks for reading.

I am so sorry. I hope the ankle heals quickly and that surgery is not needed. It is never a good time for something like this to happen. (((Hugs)))

If nothing else, I sure hope you can get some good pain medications! At least that might help your bladder under these circumstances! Don't stress about xmas! I had a terrible xmas last year. My symptoms were horrible, I was getting no sleep, and a cat we had for 13 years - ever since she was a kitten died that morning while we were opening presents. That just stressed me out so much out of guilt! I can't stand to see all the greedy materialism that this holiday has turned into. If you can't make it to the stores, hopefully you can shop on line and have things gift wrapped and sent. Or use gift cards. Don't beat yourself over this. Does it matter in the world if your xmas lights aren't up? I felt so guilty last year because I felt I let my family down by not having everything done and "perfect". You just have to put it in a better perspective. I just read the paper or see the news and see how people have lost everything in natural disasters and think to myself how lucky I am to have a home. We are estranged from our families on both my side and my husbands because they are so dysfunctional. So I am not blessed by being surrounded by family or friends for that matter. But I am trying to keep my chin up and just do the best for my husband and kids that I can. Some days I can get alot done, some days I just stay in bed with my feet up trying to get relief. Just work on getting yourself better! That is the best gift you can get for your family. My kids don't need any more toys or stuff so sometimes I think the best gift is just to make a big donation to charity and that makes me feel like at least I can help someone else have a nice xmas. I hope you feel better!

:hi:You are so right! I know I need to get things in perspective. Today you are the second one to mention this. The first was in the comic section of the Sunday paper...Ziggy. I know there are so many people worse off then I am at this moment and hopefully mine is just temporary. I hope you have a better Christmas this year and are feeling much better. It's hard having to go to the bathroom all the time with a broken ankle. I crawl most times because it's easier than trying to use the crutches, but at least I get there. I do appreciate all the kind thoughts and prayers.

I haven't had a broken ankle, but did have a bad sprain. I moved about my house on my computer chair (it has wheels). You might want to check into renting a wheel chair until your ankle heals.

Warm healing thoughts,
Donna

I broke a couple bones in my right foot the week before Christmas last year. Luckily I had most of my shopping done and my decorations up.

I know what you mean about getting around with the crutches. Taking a bath or shower was the worst!!!! I remember the doctor telling me not to put any pressure on my foot at all. I could barely make it from the procedure room where they put on my cast to the front desk. I was in a huge sweat and totally out of breath. I had no idea how I was going to make it to the car!!! My doctor suggested surgery as well since one of the bones I broke on the side of my foot is so small and hard to heal. I begged him not to operate unless absolutely neccesary, since I don't heal well "skin-wise"

I attempted to go shopping with my husband. The store promptly put me in a wheel chair and treated me so wonderfully. I had my own personal shoppers picking out sizes for me. I definitely saw the Christmas spirit for a couple of hours that day! They gave me some coupons, plus gave my husband and I a gift card to go eat in a restuarant at the mall. They even called to make sure we would be seated right away. We didn't even spend much, but they were so nice!

At least we were not having Christmas at our house since my sister-in-law on my hubby's side and my mom were both both having Christmas celebrations at their houses, so it wasn't up to me to fix anything, but it was hard to ride in a car for a few hours and nogotiate around their homes with my cast and crutches.

Definitely take care of yourself and hopefully someone will offer to help you get some decorations up if that is what you want. A few of my friends came over and helped me and my husband get ours down since I was in 3 different casts until the end of February.

Take care!
Tracey

I would follow the advice of getting a chair with wheels. Its very helpful!

One of my friends broke her leg in a few places from a car accident a few years ago. She was having trouble carrying food from the counter to the table. I grabbed her computer chair. She put the food on the chair and just pushed it along while she hobbled on her crutches. She even used this technique to take food to the livingroom so she could veg out.

A few years ago, I was walking down the stairs at work heading to lunch. I tripped. I sprained my right ankle and broke a bone in my left hand. I was in a wheelchair and a sling for my arm for about a week. It was nuts! I couldnt even go home because I lived in a second story apt with no elevator. I had to go and stay with my grandpa. Grandma had a stroke a few years prior and the house was pretty much still set up from that.

During the week that I was down, my future hubby took me out shopping. Everyone was so nice! They moved things out of the way so I could get thru, and they helped me get things down from shelves. It was funny watching me try to use the wheelchair.:bonk: I would push it with my good arm, and kinda steer with my my good foot.

I would do some shopping on line, or I would go to the store, get some xmas cards and cash and go that route. Im sure people would be very understanding given your condition!

Hope you feel better soon!
