I had surgery yesterday to get rid of kidney stones and have my new URO who is finally listening to me, see what is going on once and for all.
I didn't get to talk to her yet, my post appt isn't until next week.
But nurses and hubby says she found a lesion in my bladder and injected it with steroids, etc, to hopefully quell the pain. I haven't see a big improvement yet... But it was only yesterday.
So my question to you all, before I get to talk to the Dr, what is a lesion? Part of the normal IC fare? Does this one injection 'heal' it or would I need something more to work with that?
She seems to be saying she wants me to do PT for PFD... But I am so skeptical about this idea. I tried it once and it just didn't really seem useful.
I do kegels, I meditate, do yoga and am very in touch with my body. So I guess I am just skeptical that PT can help me not pee so much!
Any thoughts appreciated! TIA!

Some people with IC have hunners ulcer but that is the only thing that I could think of that would be referred to as a lesion. The people I have read on the boards here who have found ulcers during a surgery have had them burned off so I don't know if this is something different she found or just a different way she treats it. I hope you start to feel better soon. :grouphug:

In my situation, my bladder develops ulcers...it sounds like that may have been what they ment by lesions. On my last 2 hydrodistentions, I asked the dr to take pictures and they did without any issue. Both times they "burned" or "lasered" the ulcers to make them quit bleeding. It's taken a while to heal, but overall I think it does help. I like getting the photos taken so I can actually see what it looks like inside. In my photos, the ulcers look like rug burned raw skin. That has helped me to "wake up" & realize that these are wounds, so I have made great changes w/my diet, following the IC diet and reminding myself each time I consider a questionable food or drink that I wouldn't pour acid on a open wound on my arm, so I shouldn't ingest it to put it on the ulcers. My favorites are/were coffee, diet soda, and beer. With the exception of a beer once or twice w/a lot of water to follow, I've elminated everything for almost 6 weeks!!!!
I'm not familiar w/the steriod injection. I hope it works well for you. Please keep us posted on how it does!

Sugar,
I had steriod injection into my so called patches December 3 and it maybe it is too soon
but I'm still in pain. I had ulcers burned off 12 years ago but now my urologist is telling me that this isn't done anymore????? How long ago did you have yours done?
My doctor keeps telling me that the interstim is my solution but it is not approved for
pain and it scares me. I am searching for a doctor that will laser these patches off
my bladder. It worked 12 years ago so why not now?? My original urologist as retired and I just accepted his replacement.
How is your pain?

Hi, I had hunners ulcers, they lasered them off during my hydro/cysto. I am not sure with an injection but they are always coming up with new treatment methods. Mine was back in 1999 and they stressed to me no juice with acid, no foods high in acidity, no fruit high in acidity. They wanted my bladder to heal. I did have a foley for 3 days following that procedure, my doctor said it would help with spasms and help in letting my bladder heal. But my pain was minimal and it really helped me. Hopefully on your follow up the uro can fill you in on how the injection works and what to do from here. Good luck! Lisa

My most recent bladder hydrodistention was done on Oct 22, this year, in which three areas of my bladder were "burned" or "lasered". This is my third hydro (and the second where they burned off ulcers, the second in April 2006). There were all outpatient procedures...for the most recent, my uro was Dr Lonny Green of Va Women Center in Richmond VA. PM me if you want the address and phone numbers. I've been pretty pleased w/him. He and his nurse coordinator Cheryl are more up to date on IC than anyone else in the area that I have found. After the hydro in Oct, the pain was still pretty constant and I was still out of work, so we started with home instills of lidocaine, bicarb, and hepairn...still doing those 2x a day w/good results. Going back to work full time this Mon (Xmas Eve) but I dont care! I'm so glad to be feeling better.
I've found that I'm super sensitive to side effects of pharmaceuticals, so I've tried many, but have stayed on hydrocodone as needed, prosed, hydroxyzine in eve, tagament, and just added cystoprotek. Couldnt handle imiprinine or sanctuara or antidepressants in general. Had the opposite effect, unfortunatly!
Where is your home? Dr Green did the hydro and burning of lasers without question. He's never mentioned interstim to me.
I hope this helps! PM me if you have questions! I've love to help if I can!
