Today my doctor refer me to pain managment. I never been to one before. What should I expect? She also gave me pain pills to take. Only can take 2 a day.

I am sure you will get some info on that. Our area of TN doesn't have pain management clinics, but alot of members are able to go that route.

I am so glad you are moving forward!

I've been suffering with pain on and off since January 07 - my uro finally suggested I go to a pain management dr. I went last Monday and I must say it has helped. He changed some of my meds around and it seems to have helped. I'm not completely pain free but definitely better. I'll be going back next month to determine if I should keep up this regimine. Good luck - hopefully it will help and you'll get some relief.

There are a variety of types of pain clinics. Some don't prescribe narcotics at all, and are big on nerve blocks and therapy, and things like that. And actually, people seem to do well in those places. Other clinics are more open to medication for pain. You'll have to see what your place it like, and whether you feel comfortable there.

But I have to tell you, pain management has been a huge part of my improvement over the last year. I am all for it. Quite a few IC patients do go to pain clinics, so it's not unusual for your doctor to suggest that.

I think you should go, keep an open mind, and see how you do. If you don't make progress over the next few weeks, you can think about trying a different clinic or maybe pursuing another avenue of treatment. But that's down the line. First just go and see how it is. And let us know how you do, okay? I'll be thinking about you.
