I got my cystoscopy, hydro, and instilation. I get these every 3 months as needed.
A week before I got this..which was this past Wednesday I started having pain and went and got a culture and it showed nothing. It got worse before this procedure so he got a clean catch with a cath. during the procedure when I was asleep and cultured it. Today my symptoms are the worst with flank pain. I called and the nurse told me I had a urinary tract infection. The dr put me on 7 days of Macrobid and I already took 2 days from my procedure. When we were on the phone today I asked her that if it was a kidney infection would the macrobid help and she said yes and that I have one. I was shocked I then asked her so I have a infection in my ureters, kidney and bladder and she said I was right.
My question is this..
I have never heard of Macrobid being used for a kidney infection. I was on this my whole pregnancy because of constant infections. Also I have never heard of being on it for 9 days. I have heard of 5 or 10 but not 9. I was on a bag of cipro during my procedure but who knows how much of it they gave me or what dose.
I am concerned and obsessing over this. I have kids and I donot want to end up in the hospital.

While I was pregnant with all three of my children I had freg bladder and kidney infections. I was on the drug just about the whole time. I also took it for a while I was doing my rescue installments daily. I get freg kidney/bladder infections still to this day. I have at least one true UTI a month.
I've been to all type of Dr's trying to figure out why I keep getting these real bladder/ kidney infections, but sadly No one has been able to figure out why? So yes it is possible for it to clear up your bladder and kidney infection. Since your Dr did send your urine to the lab. The bacteria that grew out must be sensitive to the Macrobid drug.
Hope you feel better soon. I know how bad these real infections make a person already suffering with IC feels. The good part is this soon will pass with the proper anti. So you should feel better real soon.
Best Wishes:

Thanks for the nice quick reply.
I only talked to the nurse and the nurse I cannot stand. She didnot tell me much but I hope that the culture they sent away for is the one that shows which meds kill the bacteria I have in me. I know my family dr get those but I know there are also ones that just say pos. or neg.
I just have my doubts. Kidney infection and macrobid???
I also had to stay on macrobid my whole pregnancy and for a year after because as soon as I would get off of it they would return. NO FUN!

My uro normally starts me off on Leviquin 500mg for 14 days since my bladder infection normally turn into serious kidney infections. If I where you I would call back and ask some more question. It doesn't seem like this RN gave you really any answers you where searching for. She only gave you answer after you said do I have this or that, or could it be this or that. Which isn't right to you as a patient.
Try calling back asking for another RN if possible since you don't like this one. Or even ask the Dr. to give you a quick call back.
You deserve answers to make sure you are caring for this properly! Kidney infections are nothing to fool around with that is a fact!
My Dr if they do the test in the office they will hand him a sheet that has either neg, poss, and how much protein, blood etc is in the urine, but when mine are sent to an outside lab that is when he get a long list back of medicine that are sensitive to the infection to be treated. I would be asking if they sent your urine to an outside lab for a culture.
some things that help me is drink, drink, and drink some more water. I know we pee enough as it is, and the last thing we really want to do is make our self have to go more, but you really need to flush those kidneys out as much as possible. use your heating pad, get as much as rest as possible.
The good thing is if the anti. your on now isn't the correct anti. it will at least keep the infection at bay. Remember before you go back to re-checked that you have been off of the anti for at least three days. (my Dr told me this.) that way if there is any bacteria still in the urine the anti. want be able to cover it up. the bad part is if the anti. you are taking isn't the correct one as soon as you stop them the bacteria may start to grow again making it the infection worse. With your Dr. taking a cath urine. He more than likely sent it to an outside lab to be culture. I at least hope he did. I know mine would had, but yet he always sends mine off since I get so many back to back true infections.
Hope you have a good weekend and start to feel better soon!
Rhonda
