Hi there my name is Tiffanie, I am 28 years old. I have had what I thought were recurring UTI's since I was 14. I was just treated for yet another UTI in October, and this time nothing helped take it away. I we refered to a great Urogyn whom I saw yesterday for the first time. He did a pelvic, rectal, and urethral exam. My bladder is a bit prolapsed (probably from having kids) my urethra is shaped a bit funny and from what he says I have IC. I am not sure exactly what they did when they examined me, I had to stop looking because of the pain. My symptoms are, abdominal pain, low low back pain, frequency, urethral burning, pain in my hips and thighs, a full feeling in my pelvis, and I bloat sometimes to the point I look pregnant again. I have been reading through the posts, and I see many different treatments for providing relief. My dr prescribed me Urelle which I have been taking since yesterday. It isnt doing much. Since my exam I am actually in 3 times more pain then I was before, has this happened to anyone else? If so how long does it take before it subsides? Does the urelle take a while to work? I was also urinating blood after the exam up until this evening. I go back to the doctor on December 19th, and they are going to look inside my bladder with a camera. Does this hurt also? Any input would be great, I really don't know anything about IC and all of my options. Thanks, Tiffanie

:welcome:to the ICN Tiffanie. I'm sorry you were diagnoised with IC but glad you found us. I took Urelle for awhile and personally it really didn't work well for me but other seem to like it.
Because our pelvic area is so sensetive it is common for us to have increased pain after any type of pelvic exam. My dr did one and it was the most gentle pelvic I had ever had and yet I still had increased pain afterwards.
It sounds like the urogyn has scheduled you for an in office cysto where they look with a camera and see what your bladder looks like. It is not comfortable but it's not horrible. The most important thing to do is make sure they put some ladocaine in your urethra before the test so that will help numb it up. I had a uro many years ago do this test and not use ladocaine and then had one at the start of the year with ladocaine and it was like night and day, it really does help so it's not so uncomfortable.
I hope you start to feel better soon. :grouphug:

You should feel better in a day or two. Any kind of pelvic exam can be painful for at least hours afterwards.
You'll want to read the information in the Patient Handbook at http://www.ic-network.com/handbook --- and I suggest you begin the diet today if you haven't already. That single step can be very helpful.
Warm welcoming hugs,
Donna
