Yesterday I had my first Cysto/Hydro done. And yes I have IC. But I am still having a real hard time urinating. It started off with just blood but that tapered off into normal. But hurts so bad that I cry everytime. Has anyone dealt with this? Does it last for days? or am I just being a big baby. Does anyone have any remedies, because I'm taking loritabs and ditropan and that isnt helping:(

I know that you're going to think that I'm crazy :loco: but the first thing you should do is drink water water water. Drown yourself in water. The more you dilute your urine the less it is going to hurt to go and it will feel alot better. I know you'll be going alot more but I would much rather go all day with no pain then only go every once in awhile and it hurt so bad I cry. If your uro didn't give you any pyridium to take afterwards then I would call and ask for it or go and buy some of the over the counter kind called AZO.

I had pain while peeing for maybe a day or so and then after that it was just pelvic pain and being really tired until I recovered. I would also suggest that if you're not using a heating pad to try that on your pelvis as that usually makes alot of us feel better. I hope this helps :grouphug:

I always say it curls the hair on the back of my neck to urinate after a hydro. Drink lots and that feeling should go away by the end of the day.

Donna

Thanks alot for your replies. I have been using a heating pad since I got up and I called the nurse at the clinic I go to. I asked if I could take Urispas with Ditropan, but then my mom called the pharmacist since they havent called back and they said no. She said to just go ahead and take Urispas because it's the more potenent one. I hope this works because I can't take anymore of this"peeing glass" pain. Ugh it hurts sooooooooo bad.:cussing:

That is so tough to deal with. I hope your day gets better. Like everyone says...drink water! Are the Lortab's helping with the pain?

Hugs,

I'm so sorry you are having a hard time - I remember well my recovery from the cysto/hydro - and yes it is painful - but it DOES get better - like everyone else has said - lots of water is essential and rest as much as you can. I hope tomorrow is better.....

It still hurts just as the day I had the procedure done...GRRR. Minus the bleeding...I wonder if I have an infection? I got the rest of my Urispas script. it seems to help the spasiming but not the pinch like burning sensation i have when urinating...and the pain i have 24/7 is just there...im beginning to feel like an annoyance if i keep callin my doc:(

That feeling should have pasted by now. I know when I have mine that the first two days will be annoying, but with Pyridium, or whatever I have, it gets easier. You may have an infection, or have you eaten anything that is a on your no no list? I hope you feel better soon.

After my Cysto. the uro. perscribed Percocet. Four days after is when I had the burning and painful urine. I even called the uro office crying in pain. They called me in Pyridium, which kind of helped. Things seemed to calm down a bit around ten days after the Cysto.

Strange that my Cysto. was negative for IC. I still have spasms, daily I still take the spasm meds. and Pyridium when needed. I stopped Elavil because of side affects (swollen face, and over eating) I am frustrated cause uro says stay on it.

I hope you find relief soon. Hang in there. There are good moments between the bad ones.

Its been a week since my surgery and yet here I am still complaining of excruciating pain...I can barely do anything...But I finally got my script filled for pyridium. so right now im up to taking 3 Urispas a day, 2 -3 Loritabs and now the pydirium....Wish me luck. This is no way relief. What was I thinking??????????????I hope it works as it should tho and that all this is just what I needed. I hope nothing else is wrong. when should I start worrying if it is something else? I feel like theres a pinch in my uretha...when I try to pee its like a chore. I feel like I have to go but hardly anything comes out and it hurts like no other....theres no stream..its like drops and then stops...and dropsthen I get up anf feel full again....everything hurts...and i feel like im whining...and just sitting it hurts...my bladder SUCKS...im sorry....ughhhh. If nothing changes im going to the dang ER on Friday!!!

I feel you! Are you drinking lots of water and still only dripping? Has the Pyridium helped at all? I don't know if this will help you but it is worth a try. I keep bottle water in the freezer and put between my legs. Even when driving some times. This helps calm my urethra. ( I will put one in some friends freezers to just incase I go into pain while over there)Have you had any spasm control medicines? I really like Cystospaz, I have a 12 hour kind. I hope you are able to enjoy your weekend with limited pain.

I'm so sorry that you're still having so much pain. I def was feeling better bladder wise a week later. I might have still felt a little tired but my bladder was back to pre hydro symptoms by a week later. I never ever ever get infections but if you're feeling this bad a week out I would call the uro's office on Friday and get tested for an infection. Anytime they introduce something foreign into your bladder you run the risk of an infection. I get checked when I have a really bad increase in symtpoms but as of yet no infection which doesn't really surprise you. It seems that you're doing everything you can to try to feel better so I would def go back to the dr. I know how much the constant pain can run you down. I hope you start to feel better soon, keep us posted. :grouphug:

Hi Dreamlove...I had a cysto done awake in the uro office & I screamed!! They said it wouldn't hurt after, but for over a week I was peeing what felt like razor blades. I bled for a bit as well!! I guess with the cath & them filling my bladder so much (even though I was awake), was enough to cause so much pain for so long after. I took that bladder numbing med & some percs for pain as well. Took awhile for the pain to go away!!
Good luck honey!!

Mine is Wednesday and I have to tell yah, I am not looking forward to this. It does help to hear what you are going through. I would rather be prepaired than unaware. I would say if your pain level exceeds an 8 you need to go to the ER. There is a paitents bill of rights on every ER wall and says you have the right to reasonable pain relief. You just need to get it under control so that you can then manage it. I hope you go and feel some better. Let us know what happens. Hope you feel better soon.

So I finally got the courage to drag myself to the ER yesterday around noon. I figured i'd hear something like oh this is normal to be in this much pain, but boy was I wrong. It turns out I have a SEVERE UTI and if I would have waited any longer it would have been bad. I ended up having to stay overnight. I was in sooooooooooo much pain. I was given so many morphine shots, I lost count after 3...and then i had an allergic reaction to the morphine...My chest became tight and ihad to be given this stuff they call "the green lizard." maylox and lidocaine...UGH and then IV saline and some IV antibiotics which I shouldnt have taken because im allergic to Cipro which was in the same family as the one I was given...so i was given Benadryl and stroids to ward off a reaction....and Toradol. Pepsid, fenigrin...man what a night...i remember waking up every 2 hours in pain...I think the Iv saline made my IC worse...but im glad im home now...they said it the nect antibitics dont work to come back for sure. So my words of advice if your hurting after 14 days after your Hydro/cysto go get checked out just to make sure you dont have an infection.

Oh wow, you have really been through it. I am so sorry you have gone through this pain. I hope the medication clears up your infection and you get some relief. That is scary when you have a bad reaction to medicine. I am glad you are home and resting.

I had the same problem. Everytime I went to urinate I nearly passed out. My doctor told me I could return to work the next day. He's crazy! It took me four days to finally feel better like I wouldn't pass out. I passed blood from my urithra for about 7 days as well. It will get better!

This has been a roller coaster ride for sure. After having the hydro/cysto, I was still in a whole lot of pain and discomfort. I was having so much trouble peeing, stabbing pains, spasming. I just felt like 14 days was too long to be in such pain and I should have known i was right. I remember calling the doctor 4 days after my surgery telling him I was having trouble peeing and the pain was bad but all he said was I needed pyridum. I should have known that it wasnt just something pyridium cures. So sunday Nov. 25 afternoon I went to ER around 12:30 pm and sat for only like 30 minutes. I was called back and assessed. I was taken back by this rude nurse who just ugh. lets just say NO ONE GETS the severity IC or what it is. maybe they need to train people in how much pain people are in and that you dont tell someone your going to cath them if i couldnt pee... Well I told her its not gonna happen or i'd leave...LOL. I also overheard nurses asking what IC was and the doctor explaing it. I know that I cant expect everyone to understand IC but I just felt like so misunderstood. Thank goodness I have a great mom who fights my battles for me, I dont know what I would do without her, I feel so bad when she cries about me being sick. She wants to take away my pain, but she has her own...She has Lupus, and I hate putting more stress on her..so afterwards I was told to put on a gown...and he next thing I knew, I was given an IV, morphine, urine sample was taken and I was to wait in my room for the results etc...I fell asleep, but my mom was with me so it was ok. About an hour later the doctor comes back and tells me I have a SEVERE UTI..Im like oh great. He also says he wants to admit me and give me IV fluids, antibiotics and manage my pain a bit better. As much as I didnt want to stay, I knew it was something I needed to do. I was then taken to the observation unit. I can't even recall how many pain shots I had. I remember being given Toradol, but that didnt do anything. I dont think i'll ever get morphine again because I had an allergic reaction to it...I think I only slept 3 whole hours that night. Tis why I dont like hospitals. When I woke up i was still in pain and was told I had to do another urine sample to see if the infection was gone...it came back and it hadnt changed...so the doc came back and said that he was going to let me go home with some Bactrim and stronger pain meds. Endocet. The funny thing is I was given Bactrim when I went home after my surgery...im kind of worried that its not going to help. But he told me to come back if its not better in 3 days...well lets just say last night I noticed my back where my kidneys are is real tender and hurts, I also have a sharp pain in my kidneys when i pee...i hurt all over....pain pain pain is all i feel... I am also mad because while i was in the ER, the doctor called the urologist i see at this hospital and he never came to see me, he just talked to the doctor in the ER. I felt like he should have come down, since the reason i am there was because of this surgery i had. I also was not given a sooner appt for my post op. I had surgery on Nov.14th and dont get seen till Dec.13th. I mean seriously...im not getting any better...More than likely i'll be back at the hospital in a few days with the way i feel...and these new pain pills are horrible...they are 10mg...they upset my stomach even when i eat with them. I break them in half but still that doesnt help...i cant take my urispas with them because thats what the directions say...so im stuck with spasms...and a pain pill that makes me even sicker...and so here i am in pain:( this is taking over my life...and to think i have finals coming up...I need to get better.
