HI everyone, many of yo uknow me, I have been aroudn the boards for about a year, just over a year actually. Well I recently found out t hat my gallbladder is dysfunctional and they are taking it out on monday. Basically it does not excrete the bile needed to digest foods. Has anyone else had this procedure done and has it affected the IC in any way, positive or negative? I have been pretty much in remission for quite some time now, I was thinking maybe it would help the iC because if the body isnt breaking down food well, then it could irritate the bladder more? Just a thought... thanks :)

I had my gallbladder removed and it didn't effect my IC one way or the other.

Well, I had my GB out 3 months before my bladder symptoms started, but I can't see why having (or not having) your gallbladder would affect your bladder. It helps with fat absorption (and as a result fat soluble vitamins, D,E,A,K). But, don't think you'll be deficient in those vitamins or essential fatty acids or have explosive diarreha or have any change in digestion. Very few people experience a change in digestion. I had mine out and noticed no change (regardless of how much fat I eat). Bile doesn't directly affect urine... so you shouldn't have to worry!

I had mine out and it made no difference to my IC. But I definitely felt better overall after having the procedure. It's really not that bad -- it's usually a laparoscopic (not open) procedure, and recovery takes a week or less.

You'll be fine. Let us know how it goes!

I agree with the ladies, having my GB out didn't effect my bladder one way or the other, however my tummy felt a whole lot better. The procedure was really easy. I had my gallbladder out 3 years ago on Dec. 12, had 11 people over for Christmas Eve and 15 people over on Christmas Day without any problems.

And....oh yea (stop reading if you are not into TMI) I got pregnant with my son on Christmas Eve after everyone left. I only know it was that day because I was too exhausted from the holidays to have relations any other time during my cycle. LOL

I had the same exact problem about 3 years. This was before I developed IC. I had a laproscopic but they had to switch to an open but my tummy felt MUCH better after, maybe a little stiff but that was about it.

Good luck and hope you feel better soon!

I had mine out about four years ago. Even though I suspect I have had bladder problems for a long time, my IC pain just started this year. I was pretty young when I had my gallbladder out (around 25) but healed very quickly. For me the sugery was a breeze. I will say for about a year or so after wards I had some digestive problems. I have some friends that also had theirs out and had the same problems. In short some foods went right through me. This is nothing to worry about. If you get this side effect you will just get use to it. But I suggest you do not get KFC chicken and then drive two hours in a very rual area with no restroom access. HaHa I forgot you have IC. Two hours of diving with no restroom access would not be an option. LOL. I hope your gallbladder goes as well as mine did. Good Luck
