After two months of hellish pain & frequency from the kidney stent, & being unable to cope with the pain of lithotripsy, I am now booked in to have the kidney stone and stent surgically removed next Friday.
I'm absolutely terrified; my fibromyalgia means that I just don't respond to painkillers properly. The hospital gave me lithotripsy with just two measly tramadol, so I just don't trust them.
Has anyone else had this done? Could you tell me what is involved please?

The surgeon's going in through my back, I think it's called a nephrolithotomy. Have your stones recurred leelee?

Unfortunately, I do get stones often..I have had 6 that i know of and am sure I have passed more just didn't catch them. And yes they are VERY painful.. Luckily < I guess..Mine were no bigger than 4mm but even the small ones will bring you to your knees.
You must have a pretty large one for him to be going through your back.. Did he tell you what size it was?
Oh and I will say this. If you have IC then that would prob be the better way to have the surgery, I know if I ever have it again I will never have them do it the way he did it. My urethra was in spasms for ever, right after that is when I started having all my IC symptoms..So the way you are having it done in my opinion is the best way.. But that is just my opinion..Being that I have had it the other way..Please keep me informed..Sending you many (((hugs))) and  You will do fine and have relief getting that painful stone out..

Thanks leelee. I'm sorry your stones keep recurring. Mine are because I had hyperparathyroidism.
What do you do about diet? The preventative diet for stones is acidic, containing lemon juice etc, & drives our IC crazy.

Oh geesh, I can't tolerate acidy foods at all, thats prob why I continue to get them.. I guess we can't win for loosing with IC :( Please let me know how your surgery goes..
