I've got a beautiful yellow climbing rose bush that I bought and planted this spring. It's done wonderfully except for those nasty june bugs that ate my blooms in July and I managed to solve that problem all by myself! LOL Tonight we're supposed to have our first real frost and I'm frantic. I don't know much about roses and don't know whether to run out there and prune it or cover it with a sheet, or what?!? I did give it a good watering and read on some site that after the 3rd or 4th frost to give it a good heavy layer of compost. Some sites say to take it off the trellis and bundle the branches and cover them with mulch, but this is for a "cold" weather place...I'm in Charlotte NC and while it does get cold here it's hardly like Minnesota. We usually have relatively mild winters with very little snow, some ice storms though rare, and cold nights with warmer days in the 50's for highs. So...HELP ME! I heard it's going down in the low 30's, high 20's and I'm in a panic! I feel so rose inept!

Husband Terry says that 28 degrees is the magic figure. Low 30's shouldn't damage it. The blossoms might look sick, but the plant should be okay.

My neighbor has a climbing rose bush and does nothing to it during the winter--it's survived through 2 winters so far w/o incident. It blooms beautifully as soon as the warm spring temps arrive.
I'm in VA and like where you're located, we dont generally have the really cold temps.

Hopefully the roses will do fine.
