Hello to all.

I have a question about Elavil and Pyridium. I have only been on Elavil (25 mg) just under two weeks and the doctor only has me taking half a pill at night. Does anyone sweat like crazy on this while sleeping? I can't stand this and not sure if its from the Elavil. Also, any reccomendations on getting stains out from Pyridium? All my underwear is ruined!

Wednesday I find out my results from my Cystoscope. It seems that all my symptoms have been worse since the procedure which was a total let down because 10 years ago when I had a Cystoscope all my problems went away.
(All Urethra) I even dropped off a urine sample at the uro. thinking that I have a UTI, but the culture came back negative. Now, everyday I rely on Pyridium, Cystospaz, and a Pain pill.

Is it normal to need a pain pill? There is a history of addiction in my family and I don't want to have to depend on them but I see that some of you are perscribed pain medicine.
Thanks to all responses. (New and confused)

Please let your doctor know how you are reacting to elavil. It could be that it's not the right medication for you.

The pyridium stains are pretty horrible. Any time I have to take it I did out my old underwear and wear panty liners. Stains can be removed from the toilet with vinegar, but I've never tried that on clothing.

You can remove the stains in undies by soaking them in baking soda and vinegar. As far as Elavil, I agree with Donna talk to your Dr about it, because Elavil did make me sweat a lot..Please let us know about your results.. Hang in there...

Honestly I've never tried to remove the stains from my undies since I don't really care if they have orange on them as long as I feel better, lol. I don't remember ever having sweating like that w/ the Elavil. I would ask your dr about that.

Can't tell you on the Elavil, I've not had that problem...

For Pyridium stains, I keep some black underwear that I use for those days I use Pyridium. If I don't have those & need to take Pyridium during the day, I use the Kotex ultra thin extra long pads, that keeps the staining minimal. If I do get a small stain, I use the Shout gel stain remover & that usually gets it out as long as I catch it that day.

Hope that helps!

Im with Christine on the stains!:lmao:

When I first met my hubby, I had to throw away some of his underwear when he wasnt looking cause they had holes in them.:loco: I dont figure he even notices the little yellow stains.

I would try just your usual stain removal tricks!

My doc specializes in treating IC and while she does prescribe pyridium, she cautions against using it everyday for long term use because of the way the liver processes it. Instead she prescribes Utira-C as it doesn't get processed by the liver. You should ask your doc about that. It might just be a doc thing and personal preference, but it's worth asking about if it's better for your liver! :smile tee

First, welcome:
I am truly sorry for your health issues. I too have heard that pyridium is not for every day use, something about it breaks down the calcium in our bones.

You might want to check with you doctor and both medications.

Hope you get the right mix of medications to make you feel better. Please don't feel bad about the pain meds. If you have a good doctor prescribing them I understand that there is little concern about addicition from them.

Hope you get to talk to your doctor soon!

I'm along with Kadi on the stains with the Pyridium-- I use the shout gel and that usually takes care of the stains. (or I have old underwear that I really don't care about and wear them).

I have been on Elavil several times and I am taking it currently. I have never had a problem with sweating at night. I am so cold natured, though.

Regarding the Prydium. I can't take it because it causes me to be so sick to my stomach and also the long term use. My doctor prescribes Proced DS for me and I have been taking it since August. It took a couple of weeks to finally see the benefits. I was taking it for bladder burning sensation and for spasms. Proced can be used for long-term use and I have never been sick like I was on Pyridium. I know we all react differently with different meds, so your doctor may not think Proced will work for you, but I found out about Proced DS from this site and I am so thankful. I wish I could remember who posted info about it, so I could hug their neck! I was taking 4 to 6 Lortab a day prior to using the Proced, now I am only taking pain meds at night. You will have blue stains instead of orange, but I just bought some white and black undies (another hint from here) and don't worry about the stains. I have noticed my toilet even having stains, but.....it works and I pour clorox in my toilet from time to time which gets rid of the stains. I alternate the toilets at work as well since even though they have automatic flushers, I was noticing the "one" I used was getting a light blue tinge to it. Very strange that it can do that!
