Today I was prescribed lexapro with Ativan as needed. Any thoughts? I don't do good with antidepressants so I'm worried that I won't do good with lexapro. I have been taking ativan for a couple months now, it's been good, it is just starting to lose effectiveness.

I've been taking Lexapro for 3 months. My anxiety level went way down. I haven't noticed any side effects. I was taking Elavil in the evening and for most of the day I felt stoned and stupid, so my pain management doctor had me try Lexapro and I like it alot better. I think Elavil helped my pain more, but I hated the side effects of it.

Hi there!
I started taking Lexapro during a time in my life where my anxiety and depression were totally out of control, I stopped eating, sleeping and could barely make it an entire day at work.
This went on and off for about 3 months...I had never been on anti-deppressants and was actually kinda scared to use them.
I called my doctor and was put on 10 mgs of Lexapro and had a script for Xanax to take when needed. I also started seeing a therapist and was able to regain my life back. Lexapro was a postive experiece for me--No side effects either.
I went off Lexapro for awile, but since I've started having IC symptoms and went thru a divorce this summer-- so I went back on it as of a week ago.
Hope it helps:)

Thank you Holly, That is my sister's name. I had to do a doulble take. I haven't started it yet, I'm waiting for my doctor to fix my prescription. I am really counting on it to help me. I have no energy and I have kids that need me. I have a lot going on in my life right now, bad marriage, I.C, of course, and my 10 year old son has been acting up, he got suspended for 9 weeks for bringing a toy gun to school, just to show it off to his friends, no threat involved. So basically I am dealing with depression that is in desperate need of medication. Thanks for all of the posts, Missy

That combination is a great way to manage either your depression or anxiety (ativan is usually prescribed for anxiety). The ativan is temporary and gives the Lexapro a chance to get into your system. Lexapro is one of the newer SSRI's and has typically less side effects. Many people do very, very well on it. Then once it really kicks in and you're at the right dose, you shouldn't need the ativan anymore. I wish you well! Been there with having little energy and a family to take care of. :)

my husband and I have taken lexapro for several years. The only problems we have had is if we run out and forget to get it refilled. Spins, and nausea. We have an agreement, He stays on lexapro and we stay married.

I am on it, also, was on celexa, which went generic, and then same company that made celexa in brand name now makes lexapro. I have been told that they are basically the same, except that 10 mg of lexapro is equal to 20 mg of celexa ( or citalopram-generic name for celexa), and that lexapro works better with less "side effects". I have tried both, I really think the lexapro works better for me. I just need to stick with one, as my anxiety and depression and pain are really "spiking" and I am sure it is because I need to listen to my Dr.- and quit trying to be one...lol... dverba, love the "agreement" you and your hubby have, my hubby would probably love to "bolus" me like you do a horse...(put med in mouth, with an edible treat and have animal swallow it...lol)

I am looking forward to taking this medicine. Unfortunatly it is taking forever for my doctor and the pharmacy to decide on whatever is wrong with the prescription to fill it for me. It sounds like it works well, I hope it does for me. I think I am going to have to wait for the first to get it filled because I have used all the insurance I can for my meds this month.:(
