Antibiotics after sex

Dear all,

my doctor precribed me antibotics which i should use each time after sex.
Now i worry abit because if i have good days and then have sex 3 times a week...that means i take a lot of antibiotics. Any suggestions of what i should use with it to prevent yeast infections?

I always take a probiotic when I take a antibiotics because I always seem to get a yeast infection while on antibiotics. This seems to help me..

I also take a low dose antibiotic after sex. Doesn't seem to bother me.

Taking antibiotics after sex wouldn't be excessive use. We're talking about three or four a week.

I use MSM gel after sex and haven't had a yeast infection or soreness after sex in months. It's great stuff! I used to have to use antibiotics all the time after sex because I'd get major flares and yeast infections.

yeah thanks guys, well within the last 7 days i had sex 3 times and i am taking Nitrofurantonin ( not sure if spelled it right) after sex and the next morning. Its a low dose but still i have taken 6 tablets now within 7 days.

MSM gel what excactly is it for? I feel comfortable with taking the antibiotic after sex but i dont think it is that healthy. A friend of mine does Sea Salt Sit Bath after each sex before she goes to the toilet to kill all the bacteria...have anyone tried that?

Here's the website for MSM gel...www.jacoblab.com It explains what it is..etc... I swear by it! I would think Seasalt would make you raw after a cpl uses! OUCH!!!

Roxie - thank you!! I'm going to try it, I am so afraid of getting another infection so I'm avoiding sex. It always takes my body so much time to get back to normal after a round of antibiotics. I'm crossing my fingers this works as well for me. :smile tee

I am on the same thing for after sex. I take an Acidolpholous tablet with the anti to stop yeast. After sex I wash real quick and pee. I have had to do this for around 10 years and it works fine.

guys..sorry havent been around lately.
i still use 50mg of Nitrofurantonin(Macrobid) after sex. It is just one tablet. I also do now salt sit bath right after sex before peeing. I just figure that if i go pee right away and then wipe..all the bacteria will go right into the urethra. so i do the sit baths for only 5 min and then go pee...then take the antibiotic and then drink loads of water. Oh yeah and now i use a gel called Multi Gyn ( you can google it) it is a very natural cream and when i put it on it burns a bit for a second but then makes it feel smooth down there. The last weeks i probably had sex 3x per week so that means that i took 3 antibiotics...i just figure that this cant be really healthy even if it is only 50mg.

I am on 100mg of the macrobid for after sex.. is that too high of a dose... I also want to know how you are able to do it 3x a week.. lol they pain last for too many days after for me to even try..

That particular med (brand name is Macrobid) does not typically cause yeast infections like others do. Believe me, I just have to think about antibiotics and I get a yeast infection (LOL) but take a low dose macrobid each day I do an instillation and no yeast infection yet. To be sure though, might not hurt to take some probiotics.

I am amazed though-3 times a week? Now I feel even worse for my infrequency. I can make an excuse and say it's not just IC, but also RA and fibro, but now I am thinking I should at least try. Such a bad wife.

first of all thanks for the replies.
well the 3x per week just started probably 2 months ago. this is when i started to take Macrobid after sex and it works great.
i was super bad for probably 2 years and just didnt want this crap to happen to me.
i do try to stick with the diet. i take prelief tablets if not.
i cant do 3x a week every week ...depends on how the vulvodynia is doing. taking my amitriptilyn (elavil) drops daily helps my bladder heaps, i drink a lot of chamomille tea (2 or 3 huge cups) and water.
Since i have been taking Multi gyn gel it feels sooooooo much better downstairs...this is only been for the last 2 months...so i am enjoying it. my doctor back home in germany is amazing. He said that if i can have sex to do so and to try not to be scared ....i kinda tried to learn how to totally relax.
And yeah...2 months ago i stopped my birth control pill too. I feel more natural than ever i actually want to have sex!!! THAT MEANS A LOT!!!! Before i maybe had sex 1x a month if so...i dont know what it is but after sex i can actually walk normal without pain. I believe that the gel helps me a lot. I put it on before sex, after sex and 1x a day regulary. And i use latex free condoms....if i dont use condoms it is worse as i think that the sperma irritates my skin.
I really pray to god that i will stay like the way i am now. I can enjoy life and dont have to think about my bladder or vulvodynia all thhe time.....that is GREAT! Just hope it stays like that. I got bad days too...i gotta be very careful!!! TRY MULTIGYN....its great!!!
Oh yeah and i take Antihistamine as well...which works great for me. Also the sit bath after sex before peeing!!!

hi everybody....

its funny, everytime i email someone or tell someone that i feel good at the moment, pain free most days, having fun while having sex etc....a few days later i regret telling everyone...since last saturday my bladder is freaking out and i have vulvodynia pain...(stabbing pain outside of vulva )
I went to the beach on saturday with my boyfriend, thought it will be fine to go into the water...well the water was freezing and yeah...in the evening i felt my bladder / urge....and my vulvodynia....the last 2 months i only had to go to the bathroom maybe 5 times....since saturday i have the urge all the time...i am sooooooo ****** off. but i gotta say i enjoyed my last 2 months without pain and urge..it was like heaven.....

ladies...enjoy every day you have without pain!!!!! the sad thing is that when the pain comes back you are so shocked and dont know how to handle the pain....anyway...i just wanted to let you guys no...i think i wont go in the ocean anymore for a while...it was just too cold! my bladder probably totally cramped up...i took an antiobiotic last night and this morning..since 1 hour my bladder is beiing ok...maybe i should just take it for a few days...

Thanks for the heads up! Sorry you're back in pain mode. Hopefully it will not last long! I love the ocean and have been planning a trip there soon. I don't plan on swimming in pools anytime soon, but I thought to try the ocean. I think I might wait now, at least until it warms up some more.

Wouldnt using antibiotics like that cause resistance? I would like to know what you all think about that. If it helps I think its okay. I am just wondering how is it okay to use it after sex if when you start antibiotics they say you cant start and stop taking them?

this i would like to know as well. when i have good days i can have sex 3 times a week..so that means i take 3 antibiotics per week...I would like to know as well if that causes resistance? Since i have been bad for the last few days i tried out the antibiotic last night and this morning and i felt better this afternoon. i will take one more today and one more tomorrow morning and see how i go...i only take 50mg per tablet but can it cause resistance??? what do you guys think?

yeah karen...wait until the ocean is warm....the ocean here in hobart was freezing cold..i had a wetsuit on but was still super freezing. i am not going into any pool as well anymore unless it is a saltwater pool.
i usually do my seasalt sitbath after sex but i did it last night just to clear out everything and it burned like crazy. i took the multi gyn gel a few times today and i feel a bit better now...but i am so scared it will not get good again...oh ladies...this illness is just crap!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

anyway..i talk soon to you all....will go sleep now..and hope for a better day tomorrow. because i havent been too good down there i missed my bladder installation. i am already a week over...i might try it tomorrow...talk later
