I suffer from terrible allergies. I take atarax for IC. And even though it helps with my IC and is considered an allergy med it does nothing for my seasonal allergies. Does anyone take both atarax and another allergy medicine like claritin everyday? I am suffering horribly and my doctor isn't sure if she could give me both since they are both antihistimines and in the same class or family. And do some of you just take perhaps claritin and not atarax? My uro said that she didn't know if claritin would help me the same way as atarax. Please respond. I am suffering so bad right now.:help:

I am sorry no one has answered this so far. How are you feeling now? I have allergies and take atarax and I actually think I am better with my seasonal allergies. I only use NasalCrom (which is an OTC nose spray) and acts as a mast cell stabilizer.

Sometimes I think it helps my IC also, but I can't be sure about that.

Hope you are feeling better!

i would definitely ask your doc or pharmacist (they know best about drug interaction). if atarax isn't really helping seasonal allergies, perhaps trying allegra or zyrtec would? some on the board use it to help their ic as well since they can't take atarax.

lol.......I don't know about me being smart...........I have said all along you get smart about things you never knew you needed to be smart about! :) I knew NOTHING about IC until ten years ago, then it was a long struggle to wrap my brain around a lot of it.

I just had another thought; I have heard that some people do get help with Claritin (not with the decongestant) and Zyrtec. I know the Zyrtec helps my daughter's eczema.

Maybe you could try one of those?

my doc put me on Atarax to help with the pain (besides it being an antihistimine, its used to help anxiety). In my experience it didnt really help with the pain, it kind of dulled it. Mostly it just mellowed me out and helped with allergies. I'm not familiar with claritin helping with it. In my opinion I wouldnt mix the 2 antihistimines b/c I know from experience that it messes you up and can really dry you out.

Does anyone experience increased heart rate from atarax?
