I would buy Dr. Robert Moldwin's book which is sold here in the ICN shop. I took it to many doctors because they didn't even know what IC or PFD was. I am sure there are articles and he has a new website which might mention valium. The book says it is his prefered muscle relaxer for PFD and suggests alternatives. There is info regarding Dr. Moldwin here on the ICN as well as the ICA's website. Below is the name of his book and links to his newest website:

Dr. Robert Moldwin, MD in Long Island, NY area
Author of The Interstitial Cystitis Survival Guide: Your Guide to the Latest Treatment Options and Coping Strategies a must read

Click here to check out Dr. Moldwin on The Institute's new website.

There is another book called IC & PAIN:TAKING CONROL,
published by the ICA , in which Dr.Moldwin describes
his treatment of Ic with diazepam(valium). He recommends
2mg 3xdaily.I think this is his starting point for many patients,
then moves to other drugs/treatments for those who don't
respond.

Dr. Moldwin's book, "The Interstitial Cystitis Survival Guide" is available in the ICN Shop. I think it's a must for every IC patient.

There is also a few articles by Dr. Daniel Brookoff on this site which address total pain management for IC/PFD. I took that, along with the book Donna noted, to my first pain management doctor. It was very helpful.

Dr. Brookoff is also the doctor who started recommending valium intervaginally for PFD.

Yes, there is a guest lecture, I believe, with Dr. Brookoff on this site, that talks about valium. If I can find it, I will post the link.
Best wishes :)

If you are hesitant to ask for valium for pain relief (like I was!), you can get it in a vaginal suppository instead. I have been having alot of hip pain due to my muscles being tight. I nearly fell over when the doctor told me she was going to give me the valium to help relax the muscle. The good part is that you don't get any sort of "high" from it. You put it in your vagina at bedtime so maybe your doctor would be willing to start there. I'm sick to death of swallowing pills all day long anyhow! I can't say I really notice any difference yet, I'm on a pretty low dose. I have been rubbing Ben-gay into my hip at night and that seems to be helping alot more! Although the menthol smell isn't too great - except it make my cats go wild! Hope this helps!
