OK, this may seem like a silly question to some of you but can someone describe to me what bladder burn feels like? I mean, do you only have this when you urinate? or can you have this burn when you sit or go to sleep at night? I don't seem to have it when standing, walking or doing exercise.

Right now I am dealing with a pain (I guess I'd say it feels like a burn) located 2.5 inches below my belly button. My bladder, right?

I went again to another MD this week. Blood tests were taken along with another urine culture and urinalysis (getting results tomorrow :woohoo:). I can't wait to hear what our next step will be. Doc seems to think it's crohns related or perhaps my bladder. :bonk:

My symptoms are burning, it doesn't matter when. I could be sitting like I am now, or lying down, while I pee, After I pee. Always! The buring that I have is more, well the best way I can describe it, is internal, but more towards my bottom area's, in my urethra and deep inside. I get spasms and cramps from or in my bladder. The kind of buring that is severe irritation. Not the kind of burn that you get after doing too many crunches. How would you describe your burning?

It feels like an ice cube staying in the same spot too long! I know that sounds weird - it really does seem to bother me more when I'm sitting. My belly is bloated too.

My burning has always been in the urethra but can go to the vagina as well. When the urethra isn't burning, then I'll have burning or an irritated feeling in the labia.

I used to get cramps more often in 2004 like I was on my period but the cramps were in the bladder. Right now, I have some slight discomfort on my lower right side like it is my cyst. I already had them checked out and I have small cysts but was told it shouldn't cause pain.

my pain is worse today! :bonk: I ate homemade ketchup last night & I'm thinking it didn't help. Time for me to review that diet list. I just don't know what to do anymore.

I'm so sorry you're feeling worse today :grouphug: I can have burning after I pee but not always during. Sometimes I have burning while just sitting and that drives me crazy and I know it's time to take a pyridium as I can't stand the burning feeling. I would suggest you drive lots of water to try to flush that acidic ketchup out of your system. I hope you feel better soon.

I finally stopped burning after giving up my gum with aspartame, but before that, here's what it felt like.

When my bladder would start to fill, I would start feeling a slight burning sensation in my urethra, and sometimes in my vaginal area (labia mainly). In the past, before being diagnosed, I always thought it was an incipient yeast infection, which I had a lot of. It feels irritating like that. Or it felt like an early stage UI.

It would also feel very hot and burn when I actually urinated, and usually would continue to burn a bit after urination. It would then ease up for a while and restart when my bladder started to fill. On bad days it felt like it never went away.

I have had this since I was a little girl, so I didn't realize this wasn't normal.

I also had other random pain - sometimes severe cramps, which in the past I always thought were either my period getting ready to start, ovulation, or a stomach ache. But they've gone away since I've been on the diet, except for when I eat something bad, so I now know it was my bladder. Sometimes I would have stabbing pains that, fortunately, didn't last long.

It is hard to pinpoint the origin of the pain sometime. I also could feel bloated and have a generic ache in my pelvic region.

Thank god I have not had the debilitating pain that others here have experienced, nothing that would necessitate anything stronger than OTC meds. But it was irritating, that's for sure.

Dr. just called. Says I'm perfect on paper!! Although, I'm relieved to hear about that, it still doesn't solve my problem. I have to see him again on monday for more tests - ultrasound. Argh!! Am I going crazy:loco:

The burning feeling is most often in my bladder. It feels like is does when I burn my finger on something hot.

More often than not, I get a continuous urethral burning or irritated feeling in labia. It isn't fun. When it gets so unbearable, I have to take Vicadin in addition to Urelle or Pyridium.

I describe my burning feeling as if my bladder was on fire. Normally more noticable at night, because that is when my muscles relax and all. When I tried to pee it would feel as if I was peeing glass. Lortab didn't work on that kind of pain, or it only worked for a very short time. I have recently started on Proced DS and I those symptoms have gone away completely. I can also empty my bladder completely at night, which before was only rarely.

Hope you find the answer for your symptom.

Tracey

Urelle is very similar to Prosed. When you take it, how soon does the urine turn blue? My urine doesn't turn blue until about 6 hours later after drinking water.

Yes I know that burn 24/7. I have not had my test yet but for the very first Time my GP in on board with the IC thing. She has loaded me up with pyridium and an anitbiotic to ease the way. I won't be able to have the test for a few months. The doc said she would try to keep me comfortable. I think I have a moderate but not severe case. Its just amazing how much more it acts up on work days then my off days.

Also In the morning I go fine and am almost pain free but on a work day by 4:00 PM or so the pain can be quite something. Does anyone else have similer.

My pain and burning are worse after I sleep 4-5 hours. That first pee is so painful. It burns when I go and then I lay in bed and the cramps start in. Lasts maybe 20 minutes every morning. Work causes me stress too and sometimes I burn all afternoon at the office. I wonder how ICers do it! I have back pain pretty much every night but before bed no burning unless I eat something off the IC Diet list. An ICer posted on another forum that described her pain as if being kicked in the crotch with a cowboy boot. I can relate to that type of vulvar pain all too well!

I am not yet diagnosed with IC, but I suspect it. I have had bladder pain off and on for many years, usually related to stress-most often they find no bacteria, but give me antibiotics anyway. One urologist diagnosed me with a spasmodic urethra sphincter. I stopped coffee, tomatoes, etc and felt better for many years. In early thirties was pain free. Then stress, then worse again. Then I discovered marshmallow root and uva ursi, and pain free again for years.
I am now 37, pregnant with my first child, and since 20 weeks, I have had 5 "UTIs"-only one of which showed bacteria. This all coincided with cervical incompetence, and at 23 weeks, a cerclage. I was in hospital for a month after preterm labor they suspect brought on by "UTI". But always negative cultures.
They did a catheter specimen 2 weeks ago and came back clear. Since then my pain has been building, then subsiding. I have days where I have no pain. Now, at 34 weeks the pain and burning is at times unbearable, and I am getting slightly incontinent (could just be pregnancy). So I am leaky, burning, and really upset. The only suggestions my OBs have are more CAth specimens, which may be making things worse. Has anyone experience with pregnancy and IC? Need help.

I haven't had tea, tomatoes, or orange juice for the last 4 days (something I ate/drank daily) and I must say my symptoms have improved a great deal. I've been drinking peppermint tea 2x day...yummy! :)

Like many of you, my pain increases at work or when I'm irritated or aggravated by something or someone. I'm doing breathing exercises, even taken the 'old' yoga tape out to try and relax. It helps a bit. This past sunday was spent outside doing yard work/hike with the dog and I was pretty much pain free. Was it because I wasn't sitting all day behind a computer? Maybe!

I'll be going soon for abdomen/kidney ultrasound. Tests I had done 5 yrs ago when I had the same symptoms. Nothing was found. I also have a urologist appt next Monday.

Saw my Uro today! :) Liked the man immediately. Asked a lot of questions. I'm getting a scan done - waiting for appt to be scheduled and he would like to do a cysto as well (argh, now that I'm terrified about). Will be done at the hospital.

With my history and symptoms, Uro seems to think my crohn's may be the culprit to all my symptoms but wants to check bladder just in case. We'll see! :hi:

Oh yeah, also got the results of Ultrasound. Bladder & Kidneys looked OK. They did see some liquid on term ileum but minimal.

PS. still have the pain & bloating. :bonk:

The cysto shouldnt be a problem-don't worry! Piece of cake and over before you even know it. I hope you don't have crohns or IC. I bloated so badly after a flare Sunday that my work pants strangled me all day Monday. Not a good feeling. Keep us posted and take care. When is your cysto?

I go Nov 7th for the cysto. Argh, as much as I'm happy to find out once and for all, I'm terrified! :dizzy:

BTW, I was diagnosed with Crohn's 3 yrs ago.

I'll make sure to keep you posted! :hi:

  Oh Ouch, so sorry to hear you already have Chrons! My brother in law has it also and I know he really suffers with it every now and then. The cysto for me was easy. Doc gave me a valium to take 45 mins before the cysto. I was so loopy. Then the doc gave me some kind of lidocain shot in the uretha which I didn't feel at all. TINY scopy went in which I barely felt. The only thing I felt was slight pressure as he moved the scope from one side to the other. Over in minutes and went home to sleep. I wasn't too sore afterwards either. It'll be ok, don't stress it'll make your chrons worse ok?

Hang in there and know that I'm thinkin good thing for you! :hi:

Thank you Gina! :)

I had my CT scan yesterday. Yuck. Tubes everywhere if you know what I mean. I was actually feeling pretty good yesterday and now the pain is back today front & back. Was it the dye they injected, the yucky white stuff they made me drink, who knows?? Has anyone else ever had pain after a CT scan???:help:
