I suffer from severe migraines.. years ago.. I thought they were sinus headaches, so I took tylenol with sinus daily, only to find out that I went into an 8 week rebound migraine that was caused by that.. is hydroxazine and atarax the same type of antihistamine that would cause the same type of effect?

I think Tylenol Sinus was a decongestant (sudafed type) or expectorant (guafenasin type). Atarax and Visteril are almost the same as each other, and they are not in the same class of drug as either of those. They're antihistamines in the same class as benadryl. Now, I could be wrong. If it was Tylenol Allergy/Sinus, then it probably had benadryl in it.

I guess you'd have to try it. I get migraines and atarax doesn't bother me, but that's almost meaningless since everyone's triggers can be different. But the atarax has certainly helped me sleep, which is SO nice.

I can tell you that Atarax or other antihistamines has not caused headaches for me (I don't migranes often... 1 each year for the last couple of years), but I recently started Singulair and talk about a terrible headache. I have been in pain for 5 days now and I have to stop the Singulair. I sleep with an ice pack wrapped around my head for the headaches and darvacet doesn't help much. If I were in your shoes, I'd try Atarax or Vistaril before Singulair.

Vistaril & Atarax, are both Hydroxyzine, one Paomate and the other HCL. They are antihistamines but beyond that you will have to discuss this matter further with your Dr. or maybe a pharmacist. I hope you find something that will help you.
